Happy Birthday to the legendary Bob Fosse! 🎩✨

Today, the International Museum of Dance celebrates the icon who changed jazz and Broadway forever with his sultry, turned-in style.

Here are 3 fast facts about the mastermind:

Triple-Crown Winner: The only person to win an Oscar, Emmy, and Tony in the same year (1973).

Insecurity into Iconography: His signature bowler hats and gloves were originally used to hide his balding and hands.

Pop Culture Blueprint: His distinct shapes directly inspired music videos for modern stars like Beyoncé.

The sky is about to get a little brighter.

We are lighting the first star on the IMOD Dance Map, a living archive of dance history from every culture, every tradition, every corner of the world. Not one style. Not one country. All of it. Every form of human movement that has ever existed, gathered in one place, preserved forever, accessible to everyone.

This is the universal night sky of dance. And we are just beginning to illuminate it. ⭐️

Our first constellation is one for the ages. A partnership that brings together centuries of legacy, thousands of stories, and the lives of some of the most extraordinary artists who ever moved through this world.

To find out more about our first constellation on the universal night sky, check the link in bio.

Every star is a legacy. Every constellation is a story.

✨ Introducing…the IMOD Dance Constellation!

For the first time ever, the global story of dance is being brought together in one living, growing archive, connecting legacies across every culture, tradition, and generations!

Launching in partnership with the Jerome Robbins Dance Division at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Lincoln Center, the Constellation maps 24 dance legends to start, from Alvin Ailey and Katherine Dunham to José Limón, Isadora Duncan, Jock Soto, and beyond. And it’s only growing.

Because dance is ephemeral. Archives deteriorate. Institutions close. Living memory fades.

The Constellation exists to change that permanently, accessibly, and with every item curated by professional licensed archivists who work directly with collection holders. No AI-generated content. Just the real stories, preserved with care.

This isn’t just a static archive. It’s the story of how human beings have always moved.

Every donation funds the archivists and artists doing this work. $10K fully funds one star in the galaxy.

Defying gravity... until gravity had other plans. 🤸🎪

This incredible circus artist @ shows extraordinary balance, strength, and control while performing jaw-dropping flips atop a Pilates ball. Every moment is a reminder of the athleticism, artistry, and courage that define circus performance.

And then... the ball wins. 😅

The unexpected ending is a perfect reminder that even the most accomplished artists take risks, embrace mistakes, and keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Innovative movement is where determination meets creativity, and sometimes the floor.

🌈✨ Happy Pride ✨🌈

A year ago, the International Museum of Dance celebrated Pride with an unforgettable evening at featuring the New York Times–recognized “Queen of Waacking” and her jaw-dropping dance company.

The room was filled with joy, history, artistry, and community—the very things that make dance such a powerful force in culture and in Pride.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and helped create what many guests described as “the best event they’d ever attended.”

As we celebrate Pride this year, we’re reflecting on the role that artists, dancers, and cultural institutions play in shaping vibrant cities. While the East Coast has long embraced major investments in dance and cultural preservation, we’re encouraged by the growing conversations taking place in the Bay Area about the importance of the arts alongside innovation.

San Francisco has always been at its best when creativity, inclusion, and bold ideas come together.

Here’s to a future where culture continues to move people, bring communities together, and inspire what’s next.

Happy Pride from the International Museum of Dance. 🏳️‍🌈💃
