Youth Passageways

Youth Passageways We are also families and communities upon which those young people depend. Perhaps most importantly, we are youth themselves.

Now called Restoring Lifeways, our purpose is to build a network of material, interpersonal, and spiritual support around leaders and communities practicing both traditional and emergent forms of cultural healing and regeneration. Youth Passageways is an evolving network of individuals, organizations, and communities supporting the healthy passage of today’s young people through childhood and adol

escence into mature adulthood. We are a cross-cultural and intergenerational network that includes a broad and diverse range of rite of passage, education, and youth and community development efforts joining together for mutual support, collaborative learning, resource and community development, and to cross-pollinate ideas and practices that foster the development of whole, healthy, and responsible human beings. We are rite of passage practitioners, youth workers, outdoor educators, counselors and therapists, educators, community organizers, scholars, elders, and many others who work to ensure young people grow up healthy, strong and resilient. Through holding space that calls on ALL voices from all stages of the life cycle, our mission and vision comes most fully alive. Our broadest aim is to revitalize rites of passage as an integral part of holistic human development on both an individual and cultural level. Ultimately, we seek to gain wider visibility for both time-tested and innovative rite of passage ideas, methods and practices and illuminate strategies to bring them to bear on the wider work of youth and community development.

Happy spring from the Restoring Lifeways fam! As life begins to push the cracks, so too are our hearts cracked open. We grieve the lives lost in so many places these days. We stand in prayer and solidarity with all those all people’s movements globally fighting for sovereignty on behalf of life. For all those mobilizing to protect land and water from extraction, to make room for more freedom in more bodies. These movements remind us of the burgeoning persistence of springtime. The way life somehow still finds a way through the cracks of empire.

As a community we are doing our best to stay rooted in the grace as well as the grief during this turn in the season.  We invite you to join us in bearing witness to this extraordinary paradox. This balance of darkness and light that is the shift from winter into spring.  We are brewing beautiful things for the season to come, including our first fundraising campaign in over three years… life is sprouting all around and it’s time to nourish our roots! Stay in the story with us… ✍️✨

The more-than-human world offers medicines for healing and supporting our bodies, minds, and spirits.  Systems of oppression, including colonialism, capitalism, the War on Drugs, and the pharmaceutical industry, have distorted our collective relationships with these plant and chemical allies. Some medicines carry significant social stigma related to race, culture, and class. These realities have created a social and cultural context in which abuse of, and addiction to, medicines has enormous and lasting impacts on our communities.*

How do we learn to hold plant medicines within cultural and site-specific protocols?

How do we consider a range of experiences and needs to create more liberatory, safe and harm-reductive spaces?

— from patients who rely on mind and mood altering medicines to those healing from addiction (and/or proximity to addiction) in their own lives?

These are some of the questions we will be asking this March during our next session of the Cross Cultural Protocols Series. A session by and for members of our network — community builders, ceremonialists and facilitators who are all interfacing with this inquiry in their work.

It’s such a timely and necessary conversation. We hope you can join us! link in bio 🔗 🍃

Our partners at Nourishing Futures are about to launch the next cohort of Re-Calling Our Ancestors! Registration for this month-long course is now open.
🌀🪨💚🧙🏼‍♀️✨

Join the Re-Calling Our Ancestors team this coming spring, March 19th - April 16th, 2026, for a moon cycle of community exploration and ritual inquiry in ancestral recovery, truth-telling, and collective repair designed for white, white-passing, and white-proximate people committed to dismantling systems of oppression in ourselves and in the world around us, as well as in our communities of practice and in the bodies of work we carry.

Following the waxing and waning of the moon, we’ll gather via zoom on Thursdays at 10am - noon Pacific Time (1-4pm Eastern, 6-8pm Greenwich Mean Time) to explore the earth-cherishing traditions of our ancestors, the harm our ancestors endured, the harm our ancestors caused, and the ways our ancestors resisted and persisted along the way.

“We approach our ancestors not as detectives gathering information but as descendants committed to relationship.” - Shay Sloan Clarke, Re-Calling Our Ancestors Core Guide

Through a series of online sessions, home study and practice, one-on-one peer support, and small group mentorship, we will honor the lineages that we’ve inherited, lay down the inheritances which no longer serve, and hold space for the grief—and relief—of letting go.

Collectively, we are building a community of practice rooted in each of our own lineages of blood, land, and path, encouraging and supporting each other in the work of cultural renewal and repair. It is through shared study, community witness, and group accountability that we do our work as white, white-passing, and white-assimilated folks to build anti-racist culture rooted in connection with our ancestors and future descendants (both human and more-than-human).

Happy V-Day! 💋❤️‍🔥💕 In honor of this day of love, we are so excited to announce the birthing of a new protocol into our Cross Cultural Protocols! The first time in 10 years! It is a protocol to honor the life-affirming expression of sexuality across nature and human cultures, and invite us into deeper more radical healing and decolonial practice in orienting to it. This protocol aims to support community space holders to find a healthy way of relating to it so that we can create life-affirming sexual wellness culture together.

Some favorite moments from our October Gathering. We are continually in awe of the humans that gather as a part of this community. From long time elders and guardians who hold the steady heartbeats of our network over the last decade to community stewards new to our web bringing new life force and inspired vision. The magic of our gathering is a very human magic, rooted in the ancient technology of coming together to share story and song around the fire, break bread and swap tales of what’s happening in each of our communities. This is how we build power, from the inside out 🧶🧵🪢💥

In these times, to come together across cultures and generations to rest and play and pray is a radical act!

Weaving this community is our joy. More from us on what is brewing next SOON 👀
