We are so grateful to welcome Pat McCabe, one of the original co-authors of the Cross-Cultural Protocols, for a deep dive into Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC)—a foundational international human rights framework for upholding Indigenous sovereignty, cultural authority, and self-determination.
🌾 How can Indigenous practitioners use these frameworks to understand, assert, and protect their rights and cultural lifeways?
🌾 How can those working across cultures practice meaningful consent, honor cultural boundaries, and build relationships rooted in accountability rather than extraction?
Together, we’ll explore the historical and legal foundations of FPIC and how these principles can be put into practice in ceremony, community organizing, cultural work, and cross-cultural collaboration.
As culture workers and holders of community space, we need tools to uphold cultural sovereignty and navigate our responsibilities to one another with integrity.
