Now what?
After an intense month of celebrations, we go back into every day "mundane" life, it's getting cold, days are getting shorter, and the holiday highs are gone...
It feels like the Torah readings are also kind of depressing... we began with the creation of a new world, very exciting stories and a fresh start, but then this week we learn, read and experience the story of the Great Flood. True, Noah and his family were saved and amazingly their efforts and work saved the animals as well, but it's still not a fully joyous week.
And that exactly is the mission of these days and weeks, to take all the light and energy created during the holidays and translate it into every day life.
To take those moments of spiritual meaning on Yom Kippur, into the workplace and use it to infuse simple interactions, with co-workers, employers and clients, into holy and meaningful interactions.
To remember the joys of Sukkot and bring a smile to someone we meet, to remember the joys of Simchat Torah and uplift someone with meaningful Torah thoughts and ideas.
For us this was brought home Wednesday evening in Passaic, New Jersey.
We traveled to NJ to participate in the wedding celebration of our Niece Tzirel Goldberg from Coral Springs Florida to Mendel (yes, Mendel....) Kanelsky from Malboro, New Jersey.
A lovely young couple who came together to merge their souls and build a family.
It was a very very joyous celebration.
It was fascinating to experience the solemn mood of the Chupah moving into the joyous dancing and celebrating.
Mind you, there were three other weddings in the Brooklyn community that day, this was not a unique, rare occurrence, yet the joy was pouring out from ever participant. Especially the friends of the bride and groom. They were genuinely happy to see their friends coming together in this union.
We are, thank G-d, blessed with many nieces and nephews, yet every wedding we are reminded of the preciousness of life, and the meaning of the union of a marriage, and we don't take it for granted.
It was a good shot in the arm and another burst of energy to carry with us in the cold, dark months of winter.
