Adaptive Sports Program New Mexico Adaptive Sports in New Mexico Adaptive sports in the Southwest are popular because of its blue skies and generally warm day temperatures.

Yet it is the warm feel of the people involved in the Adaptive Sports Program that make outdoor recreation in the Southwest the absolute best! Since 1985, the Adaptive Sports Program has offered safe and supportive adaptive sports lessons for adults and children (five years & older) with a wide array of disabilities. Lessons take place in various locations around the beautiful state of New Mexico. Founder, Ken Ley, was a research scientist at Lovelace and an adaptive skier himself. Although adaptive skiing was still relatively rare in the mid 80’s, Ken modeled the program after existing programs. With over 30 years of experience of providing adaptive sports services, ASP has become the largest adaptive skiing program in the state and has provided access to fun and therapeutic year-round recreation for thousands of children and adults. Our sports have expanded to include rock-climbing, watersports, archery and much more! Contact us to learn more about how you can get involved with ASP.

We had a great time at So Every BODY Can Move today at Highland High School! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn about ASPNM and the opportunities to get involved in adaptive sports.

We also want to give a huge shoutout to Kyle Stepp and everyone who helped get legislation passed to improve access to the equipment people with disabilities need to stay active. Expanding insurance coverage for prosthetics, orthotics, and mobility devices for physical activity is a huge win for New Mexico.

Being able to ride a bike with your family, try a new sport, or get back to something you love matters. Kyle and the So Every BODY Can Move team have put so much work into making those opportunities possible for more people, and we’re grateful for everything they’ve done.

We’re proud to be part of this community and excited to keep helping more New Mexicans get outside and get involved.

As we get ready to put the final touches on the new Shed (which is looking more and more like a real building these days 😍), we figured it was time to add a few progress pics to the grid!

It’s been pretty incredible watching this space come together, and we’re getting SO close. We can’t wait to see the Shed full of athletes, volunteers, gear, and all the organized chaos that comes with ski season. 🎿❄️
