Along with our regular weekly club rides, we're Riding for Roadless this week. 🌲🚵🌲

Join us and New Mexico Wilderness Alliance on Wednesday, September 2 for a group ride through a roadless area facing rollback.

We'll meet at 5 pm at the Borrego-Bear Wallow trailhead off Hyde Park Road for a quick meet and greet, then talk about the USDA's proposal to rescind the Roadless Rule and how to get involved. At 5:45 we'll head out on a 3.5-mile ride through the Borrego, Bear Wallow, and Winsor Trails in the Juan de Gabaldon Grant Inventoried Roadless Area on the Santa Fe National Forest. Moderate/intermediate difficulty.

We’re keeping a close eye on air quality through the Wildfire Air Quality Response Program. If the forecast is Good or Moderate, we’ll be at Chamisa getting some much-needed trail work done.

If air quality is forecast to be Unhealthy or worse, we’ll either cancel or relocate the work day to another location.

🛠️ Last weekend, 11 volunteers tackled a section of the upper Winsor, 0.6-miles down from Norski, including the technical trail—and the results are already showing! 🚵‍♀️ We focused on erosion mitigation, clearing drains, cutting back brush, and stabilizing the trail while preserving the technical challenge and multiple-line character we all love.

💪 We added about 800 pounds of rock in four locations to stabilize the trail without changing the underlying challenge. We also reopened a couple of the trail’s original lines that had been shortcutted via inside-line turns, while keeping the multiple-line aesthetic intact.

The verdict from longtime Winsor riders? “Much needed” and “best this trail has looked in a while.”

The trail is riding great now—and that’s thanks to the volunteers who showed up and put in the work. Thank you! 🙌
