Historic Santa Fe Foundation The Historic Santa Fe Foundation is a nonprofit organization. If visiting our historic city of Santa Fe, look for them around town.

Our mission is to preserve, protect and promote the historic properties and diverse cultural heritage of the Santa Fe area, and to educate the public about Santa Fe's history and the importance of preservation. The Historic Santa Fe Foundation (HSFF) is an organization that has contributed to the preservation and knowledge of the city since its founding in 1961. We own and maintain six properties in Santa Fe, hold historic preservation easements on others and research and recognize properties for the HSFF Register of Resources Worthy of Preservation. Many of these dozens of resources are publicly noted with the plaques mounted on the properties bearing the HSFF Register designation. Our offices are located in the iconic El Zaguán midway up the historic Canyon Road with the white picket fence, the old horse chestnut tree and luscious historic garden. We do not charge admission and visitors are welcome to visit the garden, our office, exhibition sala and gift shop at El Zaguán, 545 Canyon Road #2, Santa Fe.

Join us this Saturday for “Seeing Clearly” a Window Repair Lecture and Workshop

Learn the skills to preserve and restore historic wooden windows. The Historic Santa Fe Foundation (HSFF), in partnership with the City of Santa Fe’s Land Use Department, invites homeowners and community members to Seeing Clearly: Window Repair Lecture and Workshop on Saturday, October 17, at El Zaguán.

This educational event features a morning lecture and an afternoon hands-on workshop led by restoration experts Mara Saxer, Mac Watson, and Jacob Sisneros. Participants will learn practical techniques to maintain, repair, and restore historic wooden windows and frames.

No prior woodworking or restoration experience required—beginners are warmly welcome! All materials and tools are provided.

• Where: El Zaguán

• Morning Lecture: $25 (Limited to 35 participants)

• Afternoon Workshop: $50 (Limited to 10 participants)

Financial assistance is available for homeowners in need. To apply, please email [email protected] with a short statement of need (e.g., financial hardship or urgent window repair needs at your home). Our goal is to empower homeowners who need these resources most!

Join us for a joint presentation by Bethany Tabor and Oliver Horn on October 15, 2026. Tabor will talk about her project Cultural Scans for Interactive 3D Experiences (SITEs), a digital historic preservation project that took place in New Mexico between 2023 and 2025. It was a partnership between the New Mexico Humanities Council and Northrop Grumman’s Technology for Conservation initiative that set out to leverage cutting-edge technology for cultural heritage and conservation. Building Northern New Mexico & Santa Fe: A Lecture & Tour with and about
Women Architects and Builders — Join the Historic Santa Fe Foundation (HSFF) on 10 October at 1pm for an opening architecture lecture by Sarah Rovang, author of Through the Long Desert: Georgia O’Keeffe and Frank Lloyd Wright, followed by a downtown tour. The tour guides include some of Santa Fe’s most recognized female architects who contributed to the planning, design, construction, renovation, or restoration of significant structures in the Railyard area. The lecture and tour include a welcome reception and presentation hosted at Zane Bennett Contemporary Art, where, before and after the tour, attendees are invited to explore the regionalism of renowned Southwest architect Judith Chafee in POWERHOUSE. Attendees will learn about the cultural history that has defined architecture in the Southwest, particularly in Santa Fe, NM, and experience the city’s unique architecture on a tour led by the experts who steward the city’s urban fabric. Post- tour social hosted at Zane Bennett Contemporary Art until 5pm. Opening lecture by Sarah Rovang with tours by Gayla Bechtol, Becca Snyder, and Dierdre Harris of DNCA Architects.
