Forest Bound - A Window into Native Plants
Know someone who loves plants and likes being outdoors?
Funded by the Forest Service and implemented by the Institute for Applied Ecology, Forest Bound takes youth ages 14-18 to the National Forest to learn about native plant ecology. We explore native plants through botanical, environmental, and cultural lens. Sessions. Daily hands-on experiences cover a variety of topics such as plant anatomy, identification using botanical terms, ecosystem services, invasive species, basic soil science, hands on restoration activities, and hands on workshops on plant uses.
Participants gain skills such as seed collection and cleaning, measuring and monitoring, plant pressing, and conservation/restoration techniques for arid areas. They also will have the opportunity to participate in workshops with local conservationist and environmental leaders, learning about opportunities for careers in the outdoors.
