This year’s Summer Potluck Picnic was a truly special gathering, as we had the honor of welcoming 20 Cultural Preservation Professionals from across Africa, visiting Santa Fe through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
Under the shade of the majestic “Grandmother Elm”, Global Santa Fe members and guests came together to share an evening of food, music, and exchange.
The celebration came alive with music provided by Fodé Ismael Sylla and Mohamed Lamine Bangoura of Guinea, West Africa. Their kora melodies and traditional drumming set the tone for a joyful, rhythm-filled night. The international visitors soon joined in, adding their own instruments and leading traditional dances that inspired local guests to get on their feet.
This was more than a picnic—it was a rich cultural exchange, a celebration of our shared humanity, and a powerful example of people-to-people diplomacy in action.
Thank you to all of our members and international guests who made the evening so memorable. Events like this are at the heart of Global Santa Fe’s mission: building bridges, deepening understanding, and celebrating our global community—right here in Santa Fe.
