Global Santa Fe An education-based non-profit that ignites dialogue around critical world issues.

Our intellectual and cultural leadership empowers our members, educators, students and communities to be more informed and engaged. This year’s Summer Potluck Picnic was a truly special gathering, as we had the honor of welcoming 20 Cultural Preservation Professionals from across Africa, visiting Santa Fe through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

Under the shade of the majestic “Grandmother Elm”, Global Santa Fe members and guests came together to share an evening of food, music, and exchange.

The celebration came alive with music provided by Fodé Ismael Sylla and Mohamed Lamine Bangoura of Guinea, West Africa. Their kora melodies and traditional drumming set the tone for a joyful, rhythm-filled night. The international visitors soon joined in, adding their own instruments and leading traditional dances that inspired local guests to get on their feet.

This was more than a picnic—it was a rich cultural exchange, a celebration of our shared humanity, and a powerful example of people-to-people diplomacy in action.

Thank you to all of our members and international guests who made the evening so memorable. Events like this are at the heart of Global Santa Fe’s mission: building bridges, deepening understanding, and celebrating our global community—right here in Santa Fe.

We hope you can join us for a FREE, community-wide conversation on the future of the nuclear age — a rare opportunity to engage in open dialogue, ask questions, and contribute your perspective to a critical global discussion.

We’ll be joined by Chris Preble, Director of Reimagining the U.S. Grand Strategy at the Stimson Center. In his role, Chris leads a team of scholars dedicated to challenging conventional thinking around U.S. foreign policy, advocating for approaches that emphasize diplomacy and cooperation over force and coercion.

Global Santa Fe was honored to have brought back the children's passport program (that had been retired since 2019) with much acclaim at this year's 20th anniversary International Folk Art Market.

Children were offered a passport to take throughout the Market and find the 50+ countries represented there. The artists were equipped with stickers representing the flags of their home countries to provide to the children when they visited their booths. The children and their parents expressed excitement over the rare opportunity to meet these talented individuals from across the globe. The visiting artists seemed equally as delighted to have the opportunity to connect with the children of our community.

We had a fantastic day engaging with children and the community while promoting international exchange. We thank our volunteers and IFAM for their efforts and support in making it happen!
