Every email you sent, call you made, and hearing you attended made a difference. Thank you for everything you did to make this victory possible.

This is a huge win for rural communities across New Mexico. The Local Solar Access Fund will help our small towns, counties, Tribes, school districts, and land grants finally kick off those solar and storage projects they’ve been dreaming about for years. These projects will provide clean, reliable energy to fire stations, schools, water systems, and community centers, ensuring that these essential resources don't lose power when they're needed most. These projects will also save money on energy costs, while supporting job creation and economic development.

NMFA anticipates that applications will open by the end of this calendar year, and we will be actively engaged in the rulemaking process that will define the application process later this year.

Exciting news! HB 128, the Local Solar Access Fund, is scheduled for its first hearing tomorrow, Tuesday 2/4, at 8:30 AM in the House Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

This bill is critical to bringing solar and energy storage to rural, Tribal, and under-resourced communities across New Mexico—and we need your help to get it passed!

The most important action you can take right now is to contact the legislators considering this bill and ask for their support. Click the link in this post or in our bio!

Many solar projects face long delays in connecting to the grid, high upgrade costs, and a lack of transparency from utilities. This not only stalls our shift to clean energy but also keeps the benefits of solar power—like lower energy costs, resiliency, public safety, sustainability, and local job creation—out of reach for many New Mexicans.
