Spend an afternoon exploring Elkhorn Slough with Save Our Shores! 🦦✨

Join us on Sunday, October 4 for a boat tour through Elkhorn Slough during peak birding season aboard Monterey Bay Ecotours’ electric catamaran. Along the way, learn about the incredible ecosystem with a Monterey Bay Ecotours naturalist, SOS board member and marine scientist Jane Silberstein, and SOS Executive Director Katie Thompson.

After the boat tour, we’ll head behind the scenes in Moss Landing for a visit to the Sunflower Star Lab ⭐️ and a local fossil collection that isn’t open to the public. 🔬🐚

This Saturday, September 26, communities across California are coming together for Hands Across the Sand! 🌊💚

From Mendocino to San Diego, Californians will gather along the shoreline to show their support for protecting our coast from new offshore oil drilling and for a clean energy future.

Here in Santa Cruz, we’ll be joining the statewide action at Twin Lakes Beach. Come gather with the community, hear brief remarks, and join hands along the water’s edge in support of California’s coast.

What a day! 🌊💙

This Annual Coastal Cleanup Day, 1,531 volunteers came together across Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties to remove 7,757.5 pounds of debris from our beaches, rivers, waterways, and parks - nearly 4 tons in just one morning!

A huge thank you to every volunteer, Site Captain, partner, and supporter who helped make this year’s cleanup possible. We’re so grateful to everyone who showed up and took action for Monterey Bay 💙

Get your tickets for the online premiere of The Cigarette Surfboard! 🎬🌊

The award-winning environmental documentary explores art, activism, and what anyone can do to protect and restore the health of the ocean.

Here in Santa Cruz County, The Cigarette Surfboard has already helped influence legislation to ban the sale of single-use cigarette filters, the most littered item in the world. After years of advocacy alongside Save Our Shores, local organizations, professional surfers, and activists, the County of Santa Cruz, City of Santa Cruz, and City of Capitola are leading the way with these first-of-their-kind policies.

The Cigarette Surfboard will be available online September 15–27 in celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 19. Check out the film and join the conversation about how you can take action in your own community.

Coastal Cleanup Day is September 19, and we're looking for Site Captains around the Monterey Bay! 🌊

Site Captains are the heart of this event — they lead volunteer crews at their site, hand out supplies, and help make sure every piece of trash gets collected and logged. No experience necessary; we provide full training and all the materials you'll need.
