Today is and we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters.❤️ Santa Cruz Vegfest is organized by a small grassroots farmed animal sanctuary and everything we do for the animals is because of individual donations from supporters like you. We could not do this without you. This month Little Hill Sanctuary is celebrating our 10 year anniversary with a 10k donor match which means that right now every single dollar you give will be doubled throughout August. Thank you for helping us reach this special milestone. We look forward to another 10 years!!

"Would you rather they go to the slaughter house and become beef"

As if the only two options for a bull are a slaughter house or the rodeo. As if their existence can only be for human consumption or human entertainment. As if they are not unique individuals with their own right to live their one and only precious life in peace free from human harm.

I would simply rather that we leave them alone.

Last weekend a small yet determined group of us gathered outside the Gilroy Rodeo in protest. We were yelled at, belittled, and covered in road debris from trucks intentionally throwing up dirt and gravel around us. But their treatment of us will never deter us from speaking up for the animals who endured much worse that weekend.

Little Hill Podcast's three part series on Cyclospora just dropped.🥬

Our podcast makes long-form documentary audio about how things actually work — usually by reading the paperwork nobody else has time for. Hosted by our cofounder Helbard Alkhassadeh.

We take our time. We attribute everything. We publish our sources, we correct our mistakes in public, and when a story involves a company we write to them first and read their answer in full, whether it helps us or not.

There is a barn in our logo, which felt like a coincidence until our biggest story turned out to be about where American food comes from.

Tomorrow, Saturday August 8th, join us to protest the Gilroy Rodeo!!

If you have seen the recent video of a bull being abused inside the Salinas Rodeo Complex you know what happens to animals at rodeos. They need your voice. Please help us speak up for them this Saturday.

Our presence protesting the Salinas Rodeo just weeks ago made a big impact and tomorrow we hope to make the same impact for the animals in Gilroy.

Please join Little Hill Sanctuary and Santa Cruz VegFest in protest of the Gilroy Rodeo Saturday August 8th from 4:30 to 6:30pm at 2365 Dunlap Ave. in Gilroy.

We will need to be mindful to not block access to the rodeo grounds including entrances and exits in any way.

If you have or would like to make protest signs please bring them but will will also have some available for protesters.

This protest will be outdoors in the summer sun so please dress accordingly.

Just a reminder that this is a peaceful protest to share information for a positive change for the animals.

If you are not local or able to make it to the in person protest August 8th in Gilroy, California but still want to help us end rodeos you can add your signature to our petition: https://c.org/9m5fGrjZvj

For a more in depth look at rodeos check out the latest episode of our sanctuary podcast:

And if you have not already reached out to the Salinas City Council regarding the abuse inside the Salinas Rodeo Complex on August 1st please do so now. They must hear our voices as we stand together against animal abuse. Now is the time for change.

We encourage everyone who was disturbed by the August 1st incident at the Salinas Rodeo Complex to email or call the Salinas city council members and tell them you'd like to see a reform of rodeos in Salinas.

Some words you may use: "The footage out of Salinas Rodeo this weekend was deeply disturbing. A bull rider was badly injured and then seemingly in retaliation - the bull had his chest stepped on, his ear cut with a knife, and his tail twisted by the rodeo clowns. There are proposed ordinances in NYC, Boston, Worcester, West Hollywood, Albany, and Westfield to ban cruel rodeo practices like these, in addition to electric prods, flank straps, and calf roping. Salinas should follow their lead and consider outlawing cruel instruments and practices, which would allow a better event for all participants. Rodeo Salinas has become too barbaric for public consumption."
