Dining for Women - Santa Cruz Chapter

Dining for Women - Santa Cruz Chapter Together Women Rise cultivates the collective power of community to achieve global gender equality.

We "dine in" together once a month, each bringing a dish to share, and our "dining out" dollars (what we would have spent if we had eaten at a restaurant) are sent to programs empowering women worldwide. We then combine all donations from hundreds of chapters to support one carefully selected international program a month. We fund grass-roots programs in education, healthcare, vocational training,

micro-credit loans and economic development. These programs are aimed to improve the living situations for women and their families, by providing the tools they need to make changes. Programs selected meet specific criteria - see more about that criteria on our national website: www.diningforwomen.org

Our October Featured Grantee:
Unstoppable: Building Girls' Agency & Power
Girls can't be what they can't see. Too often, that means a future in which education, agency over their future, and having a voice for change is just a dream. In October, we are funding a $50,000 Featured Grant to She's the First which works in multiple countries in the Global South. She’s the First teams up with grassroots leaders to make sure girls everywhere are educated, respected, and heard!

Today on this day of expressing LOVE, we ask from an open heart to share with the children of

Late last week, our safe home(orphange) my dear friend Clare Campbell founded in Eastern Congo, was evacuated due to M23 Rebel conflict, 30 of our children at Congo Threads fled their home in Mukwidja, fleeing to our second house (that houses 29 children)there is not enough space to house all of them! The conflict does not seem to be slowing down as the Congolese Army is guarding Minova and it is not safe for the children to be there as there with daily skirmishes.

Right now is calling on urgent support to raise money for a new house (which has been found) clothing, schooling, food, medical supplies and a house mother to care for them. Our target is $7,000 which will change the lives of 30 children for 12 months.

Please donate via our "Go Fund Me" Page to Congo Threads 🙏❤️gofund.me/fc7a1426

Every little bit counts!! Collectively we can help grow the world into a more loving peaceable place for the next generation!

Fabulous Holiday Gathering For Together Women Rise &
Up for the Poor Bangladesh
Project Title
Girls Education Program (GEP): Girls Health and Safety Training

Mission
Speak Up for the Poor’s mission is to create a new reality for girls in poverty.

Project Summary
The Girls Education Program helps girls from impoverished families who are vulnerable to child marriage and child trafficking to stay in school all the way through college graduation. This both changes the trajectory of those girls’ and young women’s lives, and also elevates the status of girls and women in the culture, as for the first time people see examples of girls and women who are staying in school through higher education, and becoming educated professionals. Grant funding from Together Women Rise will fund health and safety trainings and resources throughout 2024, for girls and young women in Speak Up's GEP.

Why We Love This Project
Speak Up For the Poor was the February 2021 featured grantee. Together Women Rise’s grant was $26,189. At that time Speak Up had a total of 121 young women in college, nursing school, or other higher education through the Girls Education Program. Today, they have 41 college and nursing school graduates, and 235 other young women currently studying in college, nursing school, and other higher education. Without the intervention of the GEP, in all probability none or very few of these young women would have even finished high school before being dropped out of school for an early marriage -- much less go on to college or graduate from college -- since all of them are from impoverished families, with uneducated parents, in communities with very high rates of child marriage for girls. (Bangladesh has one of the highest rates of child marriage in the world for girls under age 15.) So, the GEP has been very successful the past few years, and is making a tremendous difference for these girls and young women.
