Celebrating Difference-Makers in Our Community! 🎉

We’re proud to recognize Raphael Hebert and Marisol Diaz of Ecology Action as awardees at the 2026 Be the Difference Awards, hosted by the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County. The inspiring ceremony took place on May 20th at The Grove.

Marisol Diaz was honored for her incredible leadership in community engagement—coordinating a program of 70+ volunteers and 35 interns/service learners who contributed over 3,000 hours in 2025 to support Ecology Action programs.

Raphael Hebert was recognized for his hands-on impact, supporting bike repair events and the Santa Cruz Bikeway, including updating signage to make cycling safer and more accessible for all.

Our Resilient Central Coast (RCC) team recently led the first in a series of Resiliency through Food workshops. This session, titled “Regrowing Your Groceries,” focused on how to grow food in small spaces using grocery scraps and items you already have at home. 🥕📦🍎

Thank you to our partners, Santa Cruz Community Gardens and the community organization Hardcore Compost, for helping make this a successful event!

Our next event will be a webinar on food preservation on June 9th at 7pm. In partnership with UCANR Master Food Preservers, we will talk about simple ways you can make your groceries last longer and reduce food waste. Please register at the link here https://hubs.li/Q04hngh80

Bicycle Film Festival will be in Santa Cruz on June 6, presenting 3 international short film programs at the Colligan Theater in the Tannery Arts Center. Starting with Cinematic Shorts at 4 PM, Urban Bike Shorts at 6 PM, and Adventure Shorts at 8 PM, experience worldwide cycling culture and meet your fellow bike and film enthusiasts!

An all-ages bike celebration for the whole community!

Join Ecology Action, the Santa Cruz Police Department (SCPD), and community partners for Pedal Palooza, a FREE bike festival with activities for riders of all ages and skill levels!

Pedal Palooza is designed to celebrate biking while promoting safety, confidence, and access for our community.

This event is made possible through funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and is presented in partnership with Ecology Action and the Santa Cruz Police Department.
