Last week, HIP hosted a Staff Retreat at a beautiful location in Bonny Doon. The Retreat provided staff the opportunity to engage in activities focusing on HIP’s mission, future, and collaboration within Santa Cruz County.

The HIP Team extends profound gratitude to Stephanie Sonnenshine, our invaluable Retreat Facilitator, for enriching our team’s experience. We also deeply appreciate the presence of Anita Aguirre, Chief Executive Officer of Santa Cruz Community Health Centers, and President of the HIP Board of Directors.

We look forward to our next HIP Retreat 😊

We are honored to recognize the incredible health center staff across Santa Cruz County during National Health Center Week. Today we celebrate Lorena for her service to the community as the Head Start Child and Family Development Program’s Education Manager with Encompass Community Services. Lorena has been with Encompass for over 32 years! Lorena says:
“I have been at Encompass Community Services 32 years and I continue to be amazed at the level of commitment and support our staff have for our clients. When I came to Head Start, I was happily surprised to see how families were given resources, encouragement, training, and the confidence to empower themselves to be advocates for their success. This empowerment has also been modeled to me as an employee. I have been given many opportunities to provide input into decision-making and procedures and truly grow within the organization. As someone who has been in the agency for many years, my main piece of advice is to embrace change and be open to learning. Encompass is such a great place to work if you want to change the world one step at a time. I continue to apply all of the learning from my job to my personal life as well.”

Thank you, Lorena!

¡Gracias, Lorena!

Thank you to all elected officials, vendors, and fellow small businesses that support us in serving our neighbors in medically-underserved communities. There is much more to do! Keep standing up for CHCs!
