Nevada Bicycle Coalition Promoting safe bicycling in Nevada The Nevada Bicycle Coalition is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to promoting safe bicycling in Nevada. That will be us.

The NBC works toward:

• Improving bicycling facilities – more bike lanes, paths and bike parking facilities

Time for a train, mass transit and bike lanes to reduce traffic congestion and improve happiness and safety. They would also reduce the burden on Sparks Police and drivers wouldn’t get so many tickets because they wouldn’t be rushing and frustrated. Real, long-term solutions are achievable!

Were you one of the ones ticketed this morning, and if so for how much?

"The Sparks Police Department has received multiple complaints of traffic issues around Sparks Blvd and Vista Blvd freeway on ramps," a statement from Sparks PD with this photo indicates. "The complaints included vehicles running red lights, blocking intersections, method of turning violations and reckless/aggressive driving.

On 8-19-2026, The Sparks Police Traffic unit conducted targeted enforcement at these locations. Officers made 38 traffic stops and issued 39 traffic citations for various offenses in a two-hour period during the morning commute.

The Sparks Police Department acknowledges the traffic related issues at these locations are frustrating for morning and afternoon commuters. We would like to remind everyone that committing these violations further slows the flow of traffic and increases the probability of accidents. The Sparks Police Department will continue to monitor and conduct enforcement operations during commute hours."

A part of this interview that will likely not make the cut is that a veteran and 30-year mail carrier in our community was recently killed while riding with all recommended safety gear in a bike lane. Paint is not protection for one thing. Second, the “bike lane” egregiously flaunts federal standards. Our community has installed car emergency lanes and pretended that they are “Bike Lanes.” This is deadly and negligent. That is a fact and we need to start following standards for road safety. The biggest little bike network is a start, but all projects should follow federal standards like other communities and stop killing cyclists with fake bike lanes that are really a cover for car infrastructure. This should anger drivers too. Why does our city lure bicyclists into unsafe, substandard roads and create situations where drivers unwittingly kill people? Road managers have immunity from prosecution for negligent road projects. They are only guided by their conscience. It’s failing us and preventing us from pursuing cheaper, more sensible transportation and killing the people who do.

Tune in to MyNew4 at 4 and 6:30 for an update on the Biggest Little Bike Network from reporter and runner Ben Margiott! https://rtcwashoe.com/project/biggest-little-bike-network/

Reno has it backward! This is a silver shovel moment … when you start projects and the politicians pretend to dig dirt. Ribbon cuttings are for AFTER a project is complete. We have been talking to agencies in the north and south about inviting us and celebrating the completion rather than the start.
