Homeless United for Friendship and Freedom (HUFF)

Homeless United for Friendship and Freedom (HUFF) HUFF is Santa Cruz's oldest and most stubbornly persistent grass roots homeless advocacy group. They are her take and often a useful summary.

We make trouble for the powers that be and fight institutional human rights abuses. The Show descriptions are available at http://huffsantacruz.org/wordpress/ . If you wish to comment on anything there, on the website, or on this page, send an e-mail to [email protected] That's also the surest way to get a response if that's what you want. URSULA'S COMMENTARIES
Ursula the Unrelenting r

egularly posts blow-by-blow summaries of current Bathrobespierre;'s Broadsides shows as they are announced on this page. They are available on this page under my brief preview/announcement of the show. Her descriptions both of current and archived shows will hopefully be soon available on the HUFF website at huffsantacruz.org. While I appreciate the time, energy, and detail put into Ursula’s comments, they have not been carefully reviewed unless noted. However I do not vouch for their complete accuracy. Audios of the shows are posted regularly at http://www.huffsantacruz.org/Lostshows.html Listeners may judge for themselves and come to their own conclusions or contact me with specific questions ([email protected]). –Bathrobespierre Robert

Ursula adds: "These written Recaps are my understanding of what I hear that is happening and not meant in any way to slander the innocent and not so innocent. My opinions may sometimes be harsh, but the actions of those in political power are often much harsher." We demand:
A safe and legal place for all residents of Santa Cruz to sleep. An end to police harassment of homeless people based on status and not conduct. That downtown be a resource for all citizens, not just privileged yuppies and the merchants who serve them. Robert Norse is one of the longest running members,
and one of the founders of HUFF. His radio show "Bathrobespierre's Broadsides" has info on Santa Cruz human rights issues. And he interviews people who are either victims or fighters in the struggle for homeless civil rights. The show netcasts Thursdays at 6pm-8pm and Sundays at 9:30 til 3pm. Go to freakradio.org to listen to the shows. Additionally it is available archived on the HUFF website at http://www.huffsantacruz.org/Lostshows.html
Free Radio Santa Cruz [FRSC] formerly broadcast as a pirate station. They are now in search of a studio and a transmitter site. There is a reward for finding FRSC a rentable station space. Call Robert (831) 423-4833 if you know of a good place to set up in Santa Cruz. You can also e-mail him at [email protected]. Robert's show and HUFF also include ma*****na dispensaries struggles to exist,
and police abuses (both race and class abuse) throughout the nation. Also tenant struggles for affordable housing and mental health issues such as forced drugging and involuntary incarceration. Through all this is a string of related ways to end up homeless...either by police abuse or mental health issues. Or losing the battle in court over housing issues. Losing housing can make you sleep outside or in a vehicle which is considered illegal in many towns like Santa Cruz. The city of Santa Cruz has policies and laws that are very unfair for those with no home. If you don't have the money...get out of our town..we don't want you here....is the tone and message from them. Which infringes on our civil rights as citizens as well as basic human rights. HUFF has a meeting every Thursday at 11 AM-1 PM at Subrosa -703 Pacific Ave Santa Cruz next to the Bike Church. Come and share your experience with these struggles or just join in to help in the fight for our rights as citizens. Robert Norse is often there and he may interview you for his show if you like and you have a story to tell. Go to huffsantacruz.org, our website for more info. For more related homeless organizations go to http://www.huffsantacruz.org/links.html...on our website.

The 6-4-26 Bathrobespierre's Broadsides show is a Flashback to February 22, 2001 with a colorful melange of Chris Brozda, Scott Graham, Linda Romero, and Pat Kittle+ S.F Civil Rights CCROP activists.
The show will likely begin at 6 p.m. on the net as usual and will be permanently accessed in three sequential sections at https://www.huffsantacruz.org/Lostshows.html
The content of the show will hopefully be further summarized, described, and posted in more detail within a few days at https://huffsantacruz.org/wordpress/category/huff-communications/
Always up for suggestions and input. Contact me at [email protected] or call 831-423-4833. Or show up at a HUFF meeting 703 Pacific (Sub Rosa Meeting Space) next to the Bike Church 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM Thursdays.
Or leave a note with workers at Food Not Bombs [FNB] 12 noon-3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at the Town Clock where Street Spirit and Street Sheet newspapers are available.
Likely throughout the week: Yet more Cold Warrior U.S. aggression , U.S. blockade, and harsher Iranian retaliation with the increasingly inevitable famine overseas (and depression at home) coming ever nearer. The weeks ahead promise worldwide economic catastrophe due to the US regime's desire for "victory". Trump is stalemated as more U.S. troops arrive in the Middle East and babble of "negotiations" flatters Dems. At the same time bullying bluster crowdpleases Trumpsters as the U.S. oligarchy staggers towards more war. Meanwhile progressive Santa Cruz sleeps. If you start or hear of any protests rousing their sleepy heads, let me know.
Reported continued lockout of the unhoused community from Coral Street's "Funding Matters" bathrooms, water, trash disposal, phone charging,—now reserved for clients only. Similarly with the London Nelson bathrooms. See also "In Response to "Housing Matters" Service Cut-Off on April 1st" at https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/04/06/18885442.php .

Weekly predictions: More phony ceasefire as U.S. and Israel ignore the Iranian redlines while rearming. Continued Iranian blockage of the Gulf of Hormuz, intensifying war threats, bullying, and bombing by the U.S. and Israeli government. Unavoidable famine becomes increasingly likely overseas (and scarcity at home) in the weeks ahead due to the US regime's desire to appear "victorious". Escalating Israeli massacres in Gaza and Lebanon as U.S. troops remain in the Middle East--the real news not the Trump or mainstream media pronouncements. Unusually, some antiwar protests mark the weekend in Santa Cruz If you start or hear of one, let me know.
