Did you know that in the U.S. alone, 3.6 million people with disabilities don't leave their homes because of transportation barriers? Inclusive design is a mindset, not just a standard. When we design for everyone, we create a world where we all can thrive.

During my conversation with Denise Redmond, Co-Founder & Executive Director Emeritus of Carousel Ranch, she shared an important reminder: once someone secures employment, one of the first questions to consider is—“How will they get to work and back?”

Transportation planning is a critical part of employment success. For individuals with developmental disabilities, building transportation skills may include learning how to:

✅ Read transit schedules
✅ Plan routes
✅ Pay fares
✅ Safely board and navigate buses
✅ Problem-solve travel disruptions

Our community has valuable resources that help individuals build these skills, including travel training programs, Santa Clarita Transit workshops, Regional Center supports, and programs that help individuals explore driving options when appropriate.

Whether someone uses public transportation, Access, Dial-A-Ride, rideshare options, or works toward obtaining a driver’s license—the goal is the same:

Supporting individuals to safely access their communities, pursue employment, and increase independence.

Transportation is not just about getting to work. It’s about expanding possibilities. 💙

Jessica Morrow, CEO of Partners for Potential, shared an important reminder: transportation is not just about getting from Point A to Point B—it is a critical part of employment success, independence, and community inclusion.

Too often, transportation planning happens after someone gets a job. But what if we started earlier—building travel skills, confidence, and independence as part of the employment planning process?

A job opportunity means little if someone cannot reliably access it.

Every successful trip builds confidence. Every new skill expands possibilities.

Transportation should be viewed as a life skill—not simply a service.

What opportunities could become possible if transportation was no longer a barrier? 💙

Transportation shouldn’t stand between you and a job. Know your options in SCV.

One brunch. One handshake. One job.

What happens when the right people are in the same room? Watch and see.
