Next Café Scientifique should interest those who came to our recent CRISPR workshop! Superbug is used to describe bacteria that are resistant to a wide range of antibiotics. These pathogens are a leading cause of hospital-acquired infections, and present one of the most formidable challenges in healthcare today. In the quest of new tools to fight these microbes, researchers have begun to look at an unlikely source: incredibly small viruses known as bacteriophages that infect bacteria. Growing body of research is showing that bacteriophages can be both friend and foe when it comes to our health.

They always say calico cats… are there “calico” dogs?

Calico cats are not a breed of cats, but they have a distinctive orange and black color pattern linked to the X chromosome and its inactivation pattern! We think that is just purrr-fect.
