Today, we honor the life and legacy of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson (1941–2026).

Rev. Jackson carried Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision forward; not only in word, but in action. Rev Jackson organized, built, and insisted that justice must reach our schools, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and our policies.

As we grieve this loss during Black History Month, we’re reminded that the fight against segregation and systemic inequity is not “ancient history.” It lives in living memory, and in the work still required of us.

May we honor Rev. Jackson by continuing what Dr. King called us to: a love of justice, a love of humanity, and a commitment to the beloved community.

Rest in power, Rev. Jackson. 🕊️

ndreds of neighbors came together for a morning of celebration and remembrance, speeches and performances at De la Guerra Plaza, a march up State Street, and an additional program at the Arlington Theatre, including a keynote from King family member Leah Weber King.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, performed, and brought your families out. This is what community looks like.

Drop a photo/video in the comments if you were there, and tell us one way you’re carrying Dr. King’s legacy forward this week.

Thank you to Santa Barbara Independent for capturing the essence of this day.
