🎉 Meet PETS Hospital, the newest Certified Green Business, and the only medical facility in Santa Barbara County certified using our medical checklist! 🌿🐾

Founded in 2016 by Drs. Joel Conn and Deanna Brown, PETS Hospital set out to offer top-tier veterinary emergency care while building genuine partnerships with area general practice vets and creating a workplace where staff, pet owners, and pets alike feel cared for.

Sustainability isn't a side project there, it's woven into how the whole team operates. From switching to reusable dishware and appliances to partnering with their biggest supply vendor to deliver products in reusable totes instead of endless boxes, PETS Hospital is proving that going green and running a great business go hand in hand.

Their favorite part? Watching the whole team get involved, suggesting new ideas, joining community service events, and keeping each other accountable along the way.

🍸Spotlight: The Good Lion

When their old AC unit kept shorting out, The Good Lion swapped it for an efficient heat pump through the Green Grant program, a partnership between and . The bar's cooling more efficiently now, and comfortable guests are sticking around longer, which means real business impact too.

"The process was so streamlined, and helps offset the cost of replacing the unit. Being able to keep the bar at a comfortable temperature has allowed us to keep guests longer and generate more revenue."

🌟 Spotlight: Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center

This community arts hub just replaced its courtyard party lights and tree lighting with LEDs, upgrades that make a real difference for the free community concerts and cultural events they host in the evenings. Funded through the Green Grant program, a collaboration between CA Green Business Network and Intuit

They didn't stop there, this year, they hosted the first-ever Carpinteria Earth Day, with a table dedicated to showcasing their LED project and encouraging other local businesses to pursue Green Business certification.

🚢 Featuring one of our Intuit Green Grant recipients: Santa Barbara Maritime Museum!

SBMM used their grant to upgrade the lighting in their rotating exhibit gallery, swapping outdated fixtures for energy-efficient LED track lighting that runs cooler, lasts longer, and uses significantly less electricity.

The result? A brighter, more welcoming gallery space that better showcases the stories of the Santa Barbara Channel, and a meaningful step toward a more sustainable operation.

Congrats to Bragg Live Foods, proving that healthy living and sustainable business go hand in hand!

As a recertified Green Business, Bragg builds sustainability into everything they do:

Certified B Corp, and getting ready to recertify under the newest standards

☕️ The Santa Barbara office swapped single-use K-cups for reusable pods and a coffee pot, and staff refill their own branded water bottles throughout the day instead of grabbing plastic ones

🌊Team members regularly join local beach clean-ups and volunteer efforts

🍶Company-wide gatherings go the extra mile with reusable bottles and cups and plant-based food options

Their philosophy is simple: a healthy planet means healthy people, so sustainability isn't separate from their mission, it's part of it.

🎉 Shoutout to Santa Barbara County for walking the talk on zero-waste! Did you know the County of Santa Barbara has its own Reusable Party Packs that County staff can check out for internal meetings and events? Instead of single-use plates, cups, and cutlery, County offices skip the landfill trash by reusing supplies, a great way to mark Plastic Free July!
