Slingshot is a program of the Alpha Resource Center of Santa Barbara (est. 1953).

Slingshot is a nonprofit progressive arts studio that supports the creative practice and professional visibility of artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Santa Barbara County. Founded in 2013 to create a dedicated space for studio art practice for adults living with IDD in Santa Barbara County, Slingshot / Alpha Art Studio is committed to building an equitable platform for in

clusion in the field of contemporary art. Alpha Resource Center is a 501c(3) non-profit organization funded by the State of California, profits from the Alpha Thrift Store, and private donors.

We’re excited to participate in the Bespoke Print Faire, a festival celebrating the world of independent print. The faire is part of the inaugural Santa Barbara Literary Festival, a two-day event featuring panels, workshops, and more.

We’ll be exhibiting several zines and comic books by Serena Horton, Marc Sucher, and Ben Watts. We hope to see you there! 🌟

One of the most common questions people ask us is “Where’s the studio located?” And we totally get it! The studio isn’t visible from the street so it’s easy to miss. Watch this short video and let Dorothy show you the way!😊🚘

Directions: Exit the 101 on Mission St. (heading towards the mountains) and turn right onto De La Vina St. (you’ll see Mission Street Ice Cream on the corner). Once you see the laundromat, make another right into the driveway that leads to the parking lot. That’s where you’ll find us! We’re open to visitors M-F 9-4pm!

From a broken mug to a work of art 🕷️♥️

Instead of throwing away his favorite Marvel coffee mug, Ben Watts decided to reimagine it. With staff support, Ben broke the mug into shards and began experimenting with clay. He ended up creating a ceramic plaque featuring a carefully glazed Spider-Man, adorned with the pieces of his beloved mug. He titled the piece Swinging the Ashes Spider-Man. 🕸️
