Congratulations to Sammy Valencia on graduating from San Marcos High School!

Sammy is our only graduating senior this year, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything he has accomplished.

Sammy joined SBSOS in 8th grade, and over the years we have had the privilege of watching him grow into the responsible and kind young man he is today. Whether in the classroom, on the squash court, or within our community, Sammy has demonstrated dedication, perseverance, and a positive attitude.

This fall Sammy will be attending Santa Barbara City College, where he plans to pursue an associate degree in either Emergency Medical Services (EMT) or Automotive Technology. We are excited to see where his next chapter takes him and know he has a bright future ahead.

Congratulations, Sammy! We wish you all the success in the world as you begin this exciting new journey. 🎉👏

Congratulations to our May Student of the Month, Jorge Gonzalez!

Jorge has been a part of SBSOS since 6th grade and is now a rising senior at Laguna Blanca School. Over the years, he has grown into a strong leader both on and off the squash court. This year, Jorge continued to excel academically while taking a challenging course load that included AP classes, maintaining strong grades, and preparing for and taking the SAT. On the squash court, Jorge has made tremendous progress through his commitment, coachability, and positive attitude. He’s also one of our strongest communicators—something we value greatly at SBSOS.
This year, Jorge stepped outside of his comfort zone and ran for Student Body President at Laguna Blanca. While he came up just short in a very close race, his willingness to lead and serve his school community says a lot about his character and leadership. We are proud of all that Jorge has accomplished and excited to see what his senior year has in store.

Keep up the great work, Jorge!🎊😀

Congratulations to Jenny Silva, our April Student of the Month!

One of our youngest students, Jenny is in 5th grade at Mountain View Elementary School. She joined us this school year and has fitted in seamlessly. She is a talented athlete, already holding her own against her older team mates on Team B, and in academic sessions she puts her head down and works for the whole time.

Jenny has a great future ahead of her!

We took a large group of students to a farm this morning where everyone worked hard alongside other Bucket Brigade volunteers digging, weeding, planting, and harvesting. The produce goes to local food bank type organizations for distribution. Great job, everyone!

November’s Student of the Month is Stephanie Serrano, a 5th grader at Monroe Elementary.

Stephanie joined SBSOS in September, and since then she has been a wonderful addition to the program. She has fitted in naturally despite being our youngest student by some way, made great friendships, and quickly become part of the SBSOS family.

She’s also getting involved at school — attending A-OK after school when she’s not at SBSOS and even running for class historian.

Keep up the good work, Stephanie! 😀
