What is Love Teens Teaching the next generation how to love in a healthy abuse-free way to end dating violence.

When someone is experiencing relationship violence, knowing where to begin can feel overwhelming.
But no one organization has to do everything.
Across Santa Barbara County, organizations provide shelter, crisis support, advocacy, counseling, legal resources, sexual assault services, youth support, prevention education and more.
This week we’re helping our community know our helpers.
Save these resources.
You may never need them.
But someday, someone you care about might.

Ask a young person:
“What do you think makes a relationship healthy?”
Don't give them the answer.
Don't turn it into a lesson.
Just listen.

Relationship violence doesn't suddenly appear in adulthood.
The beliefs and skills young people carry into relationships are developing much earlier.
That's why prevention matters.
We can help young people recognize respect, communicate boundaries, understand consent, navigate conflict, and know where to turn when something doesn't feel right.
We don't have to wait for violence to teach healthy relationships.
Save this. Share it with a parent, educator, coach or school leader.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Relationship violence isn’t only an adult issue.
Young people are already forming ideas about what is normal in relationships—how someone should treat them, what jealousy means, whether boundaries will be respected, and how conflict should be handled.
That’s why we believe relationship education must be taught before a young person is experiencing abuse.
We can teach something different.
💚 Healthy relationships can be learned.
💚 Unhealthy patterns can be recognized.
💚 Trusted adults can make a difference.
💚 Asking for help can be practiced.
Prevention doesn’t have to begin with violence. It can begin with a conversation.

If there’s one thing I want young people to know, it’s this:
You have a voice in your relationships.
You can say what you need.
You can set a boundary.
You can change your mind.
You can expect respect.
You can ask for help.
Healthy relationships aren’t something we’re supposed to magically know how to navigate.
They’re learned.
And we can give young people the skills to build them. 💚
