EVERYONE IN THE WORLD, YOUNG AND OLD, IS INVITED TO JOIN US! Today, we’re opening the doors to the beta version of our NEW Peace Crane exchange program, designed to be more fun, more inclusive, easier to navigate, and less expensive to complete! It is also designed for EVERYONE, NOT JUST STUDENTS! We're calling it...
One Crane. One Letter. One World.
A simple exchange between fellow humans.
One folded crane.
One handwritten letter.
One connection across the world.
Before we can begin sending cranes, however, we need something every exchange depends upon: people willing to receive them.
So today we are opening registration for our first group of participants. We’re hoping that includes YOU.
SIGN UP HERE: https://peacecraneproject.org/signup-express/
Why Sign Up Now?
The first participants to sign up will be among the first to receive a crane.
Normally, participants send before they receive. But every exchange needs receivers before it can have senders, so our earliest volunteers will help us build the foundation of the system.
If you’d like to be among the first people in the world to participate in our new exchange program, now is the time to sign up. And the good news is, no need to wait until you have a group organized. This exchange works well for individuals.
How It Works
Step 1: Sign Up
Register for the exchange and create (or update) your account HERE: https://peacecraneproject.org/signup-express/
Once enough participants have joined to create a healthy receiver list, we’ll send an email inviting everyone to begin exchanging. The more of you that sign up now, the quicker we will launch. I’m hoping it happens this coming week!
Step 2: Click “Ready to Send”
When exchanges open, you’ll log in and click the Ready to Send button. Be sure you are ready to participate, with a crane folded, before clicking!
Our system will immediately provide you with:
The name and address of a participant somewhere in the world
A unique exchange code
Write that code on both your folded crane and your letter.
Step 3: Fold and Write
Your letter can say whatever you’d like.
Tell someone about your family.
Describe your community.
Share your hopes, dreams, or favorite traditions.
Write about peace.
Tell a story.
Introduce yourself.
The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is human connection.
Then place your crane and letter in an envelope (Don’t forget to add the code we provide to both the crane and the letter!) and send them on their journey.
Step 4: The Crane Arrives
When your recipient receives the envelope, they will log into the website and enter the exchange code.
That simple action tells us the crane has safely arrived. It also makes you eligible to send another crane and letter.
Step 5: Watch the Flight Path Appear
As soon as the arrival of your crane and letter is confirmed, our website will generate a flight path on the Peace Crane Project map.
Your crane’s journey will become visible as one more line connecting people across our shared world.
Every line on the map represents a real crane, a real letter, and a real human connection.
How You Receive a Crane
The moment you click Ready to Send, your name is added to the receiver list.
As participants around the world request addresses, names are selected in the order they were received from that list.
When your turn arrives, someone else will fold a crane, write a letter, and send it to you.
The person who sends to you will usually not be the same person you sent to.
Instead, each exchange becomes part of a larger web of connections spanning countries, cultures, and communities.
How Many Exchanges Can I Make?
During beta testing, participants may have up to five cranes in flight at a time.
As our system grows, we hope to expand participation even further.
School classes and community groups will eventually be able to send as many envelopes as there are members in their group, allowing entire classrooms and organizations to take part simultaneously.
What Comes Next?
In the coming days, we’ll share detailed shipping guidelines, including best practices for mailing cranes internationally and tips for helping your crane arrive safely.
For now, our goal is simple:
Build the receiver list.
Prepare the first exchanges.
And begin connecting people like you, one crane and one letter at a time.
If you’d like to help launch this new chapter of the Peace Crane Project, sign up today and become one of our founding participants.
One Crane. One Letter. One World.
Let’s see where the first flights take us.

Sign up for the Peace Crane Project! Photos are optional but will really liven up your listing! Entries without images attached will include random crane photos of our choosing. All entries are read/screened, then added to the exchange list. You will be added to the list soon, but not instantly.
