Happy first day of March...in honor of Alan Vu (former UCSB APIA Board member)

Just a reminder that the Happy Birthday to Vu Memorial Fundraiser is live today! https://www.facebook.com/happybirthdaytovu

Read Jo Ann Villanueva-Salvador full reflection of Alan here: https://happybirthdaytovu.wordpress.com/2023/03/01/from-jo-ann/

More information on the birthday fundraiser via Thomas Franke:
"Amidst these posts commemorating Alan, I will also be encouraging readers to support the fundraiser by making a donation in increments of $34 in honor of Alan’s 34th birthday."

Ways to make your tax-deductible contribution to the fund:

MAIL by check: Make your check payable to the UC Regents. Please write "OSL/Alan Vu Fund" in the memo line. Mail to: Student Affairs Grants and Development UC Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, CA 93106

ONLINE by credit card. http://www.sa.ucsb.edu/giving/osl and designate your gift In Memory of Alan Anh-Phi Vu.

For what it’s worth, online/credit card donations deduct a larger processing fee than check donations do, so donations by check are a great way to make the most bang for your buck.

Extending a special THANK YOU to Maka and Cheryl Takahara for kindly opening their house to welcome members of our API community to quickly pivot to a warm indoor location. Despite being a cold and rainy day, thank you to all those who came out and attended the potluck social to eat delicious food and have a wonderful time laughing together in such a cozy, beautiful home. Here's to continuing to rebuild APIA (Asian Pacific Islander Alliance) this coming year!

Wanted to send a special THANK YOU to Joe Sabado for hosting a ProD session for our API community during the lunch hour about Change Management using ProSci method. It was a very informative session and great discussion about how to be more effective as change makers/recipients.

After APIA being on hiatus temporarily, thank you to Elizabeth, James and the entire Acebu family for graciously opening up their house to UCSB's API community and providing a scrumptious dinner surrounded by a beautiful ambiance.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the potluck and giving a special shout out to Elizabeth and James' children: from AJ's delicious tri-tip along with chimmichurri to Mina's out of this world pandan waffles. Here's a fun pic of tonight's festivities!

Looking forward to continuing to have more fun, laughter and making new connections at our next API social!

A Call to Santa Barbara Area Asian Communities: A Vigil to Join in Solidarity Against Hate

Please join us and bring your family members across generations to the 📍 corner of State and Anapamu Streets, downtown Santa Barbara, on 📅 Saturday, March 27, at 1 - 3 pm.

We will have signs or you can make and bring your own. Please keep your messages positive. 📣

We wish to raise awareness of our largely invisible Asian diaspora right here in Santa Barbara. We will welcome the presence of any allies who wish to stand behind us and show their support as well.

🤍Please wear white, the color of mourning in many Asian cultures.

We come to you as members of the multi-national Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander community here in Santa Barbara to ask your presence at a vigil to honor and remember those who were killed in Atlanta, as well as recognizing over 3800 acts of anti-Asian violence across our country in the past year.

We hope that this will provide the momentum for our diverse communities to reach out and form a coalition network and support each other in the face of so much violence.

Coronavirus safety guidelines: Please wear masks and safely distance yourselves at the vigil.
