With the combined efforts of the surf community, we spread the treasure of wave riding to children in less fortunate areas around the world. OUR STORY:
The inspiration for Foam For Families began on a trip to Central America in 2011. While in Nicaragua, we had the pleasure of surfing with a local kid named Chinto. Chinto inspired us. He was riding a damaged board most of us would consider garbag
e and throw away. Chinto's board had been snapped in half and repaired multiple times, yet he still surfed really well. Chinto had a passion for surfing, and it was this passion that inspired us to spread the love of surfing to others. The more we traveled around with him, the more we came to realize just how bad the conditions were. It wasn't just Chinto who had been surfing on a damaged board, we met multiple children in his same situation-with a love of surfing, but unable to access quality boards. We learned from Chinto that the closest place to buy surfing supplies was in Costa Rica. Not to mention it was all too expensive; 79% of Nicaraguans only live on less than two U.S. dollars a day. Looking at all our surf gear, we relized how fortunate we were and decided to give Chinto and his little brother boards, leashes and fins; they were both incredibly stoked. It was Chinto's story that made us feel extremely lucky to be born in a country where we have the opportunity to experience all of the positive benefits surfing has to offer, and ample access to surf gear. Boards, wax, leashes, and other surfing supplies are tough to come by in not only rural Central America, but many other countries as well. With your help, we can make this change for many children around the world!
