Dear ADPOV Community,
We hope this letter finds you safe and well! These past 2+ years have caused a lot of change and transition for all of us. Here at A Different Point of View it’s been no different. We worked hard to pivot during the constantly changing environment through the heart of the COVID-19 Pandemic to serve our students, and great virtual programming took place! A major milestone in 2020 was the inclusion of Wide Horizons into the structure of ADPOV. Wide Horizons is dedicated to building better lives for youth transitioning from homelessness in Santa Barbara through tutoring, mentoring, and training in the arts and aviation. ADPOV is the fiscal sponsor of Wide Horizons and a partner in programming.
As restrictions lightened in 2021 we worked quickly to develop safety protocols to allow in-person programming to resume. Our 2021 major milestone was the graduation of 6 students on scholarship in our Aviation Scholar Program. The highlights for the students in this program were the completion of an Embry Riddle online course, a personal STEM Flight Mission, and flight lessons that will be logged flight hours.
In October of 2021 we also had a major transition in ADPOV Staff leadership. Our beloved Executive Director, Ali Cotes, stepped down to pursue other personal and professional goals. Since Ali’s departure the Board of Directors has made the decision to pause programming and focus on the assessment of our organizational structure. This includes our programs, fundraising, staff time, organizational processes and more.
As ADPOV moves into the second quarter of 2022 the Board of Directors has decided to continue the pause in our programs. The continued work of our organizational structure and community partnership development are our two current priorities.
We want to thank all members of our community – students, parents, donors, volunteers, mentors, and general supporters – for all the care and support given over the years! We also want to sincerely thank Ali for her dedication, endless service, and leadership while she served as our Executive Director!
Sincerely,
ADPOV Board of Directors
