Greetings AYWW Supporters,

Much thanks to all of you who’ve already joined our AYWW letter writing campaign to secure a one-year UN global ceasefire in 2021. I’ve gotten many personal reports from those of you enjoying this opportunity to put your toe in the global arena during our pandemic shelter-in-place. AYWW is focusing these next couple of weeks upon the UN Permanent Missions of Japan, Greece and France, listed below, to request that the 2021 two month Olympic Truce be extended by ten months making 2021 a year-long ceasefire. Additionally, contact information for
the UN Secretary-General and the UN Office of the International Olympic Committee. We’ve also included phone numbers, if you wish to make a call. Our form letter for this campaign is also listed below. You can personalize, if you desire, but please do include your name, title,
email. Also, please put together your own letter writing campaign with your social network and give us an update on your progress.

We have just received word that our AYWW letter requesting the support of President Mikhail Gorbachev, in view of his recent letter to Time Magazine, which many of you sent me, is being translated for President Gorbachev. We will be contacting this week, via a personal directive, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Greece. You will see listed below the countries of France, Greece and Japan. France’s President Macron has just personally garnered the support of most permanent members of the UN Security Council for the present UN ceasefire issued on
March 23 by Secretary-General Guterres. Greece and Japan, given their involvement in the 2021 UN Olympic Games and Truce, are critical agents in our AYWW bid to simply add 10 months to the 2021 Summer Olympic Truce for the rescheduled Olympic Games in Tokyo. Also organization addresses are included below: International Olympic Committee to the UN and International University for Peace. And the UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutterres, who started this campaign with his 2020 declaration of A Year Without War.

COVID-19 ALERT: Ceasefire Support Letter

Dear A Year Without War international supporters,
Upon the UN Attorney-General’s global ceasefire (https://news.un.org/en/story/2020/03/1059972), we are beginning a new email initiative. Attached is a letter to send to local and international representatives to show your support of AYWW. Included below is the UN Blue Book alongside other UN contacts and we encourage you to send this to your local government representatives. We further invite you to please share this post to your personal network to help build a more peaceful future.

I am writing to support UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ March 3, 2020 request for a global ceasefire in support of the bigger battle humanity is now waging against COVID-19: the common enemy that is threatening all of humankind. However, now is the time for the UN Secretary-General to initiate a second ceasefire for the entire year of 2021. This can readily be accomplished by simply extending the anticipated UN General Assembly two-month Olympic Global Truce for the rescheduled 2021 Summer Olympics. The UN General Assembly has been passing two-month Olympic Global Truces for nearly two decades. (see: AYWW.org)

The Secretary General’s call for a global ceasefire, if it takes hold, has the capacity to mitigate our present world pandemic. Yet its logic extends beyond this global health crisis. Once this Coronavirus pandemic has passed, peoples and societies will then need to extensively heal as has been the case after other natural catastrophes. A one-year global ceasefire, a year without war, would be of extraordinary benefit to humanity if it could be put in place during 2021, and if successful it could have longer term beneficial effects for the human species. The two plus trillion dollars spent globally on warfare and military preparedness will be desperately needed to achieve a rapid and equitable process of recovery for nations of different endowments and capabilities. Additionally, the existing military establishments could then be freed to devote their energies to helping with the restorative process. We can seize this moment to encourage our social networks, governmental representatives at all levels of government to move the UN, to move our world toward a year without war in 2021, which could turn out to be a transformative moment that raised hopes for a bright human future for all peoples on earth.

COVID-19 ALERT: UN Ceasefire

Dear A Year Without War supporters,

In an appeal issued on Monday, March 3, 2020, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged “warring parties across the world to lay down their weapons in support of the bigger battle against COVID-19: the common enemy that is now threatening all of humankind.” As of April 9, 2020, most member nations have signed onto the Secretary General’s Global Ceasefire now. (See list at AYWW.org).

I recently received this UN global ceasefire information from one of our A Year Without War supporters asking me to sign the Global Ceasefire Petition at The Action Network (https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/global-ceasefire-now). This AYWW supporter also asked a question regarding the Secretary General now being in near perfect alignment with our AYWW movement. I went to the UN website to read the UN Global Ceasefire materials (https://news.un.org/en/story/2020/03/1059972), I came to the following:

Secretary-General Guterres has planted our AYWW seed at a global level. During our present Shelter in Place pandemic, our AYWW community is poised to have a major impact. Now is the time for our network to devote a few hours each pandemic week to contact the powers that be as well as to recruit their own personal networks to send some version of the draft letter below.

As you know we have tied our one-year global ceasefire movement to the Olympic years. The 2020 Summer Olympics have been moved to Summer 2021 due to the pandemic. We need our AYWW network of supporters and beyond to send the following letter to Secretary General Guterres as well as to the UN representatives of the nations, who’ve signed this recent UN Global Ceasefire Petition. Included in an additional post will be a letter to copy and paste alongside the UN Blue Book, which lists contacts for all UN member nations. Additionally, we need to send our letter throughout our personal networks urging people to send our letter throughout their networks, but to also manage their own networks so that their networks send this letter to government reps and then continue expanding those networks until we cover the globe.

Through our AYWW growth, we’ve been fortunate to have the support of both Prof. Robert Orr, Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the UN, along with Prof. Richard Falk, United Nations Special Rapporteur. Not only did Richard and Robert already receive this letter but Richard responded immediately by sending his letter to the Secretary General and asking that I send it to all nations that have already signed on. Please let your imagination run free in building out your contact list. Our ready supporters have been churches, synagogues, temples and mosques, peace groups around the world, rotary groups around the world. Please contact any of these networks that you may be a part of. Also any celebrities in your family or your fascination. Let’s turn this quarantine into something positive!
