Founded in 2011, our mission is to sustainably empower widows and orphans living in Uganda. Our work includes the Beads Project, numerous agriculture programs, and BSSP, the Because of Hope Student Scholarship Project. When you purchase jewelry handmade by the women we support, 100% of the proceeds fund programs for their families. You have the power to change lives!

We believe in empowerment! Through agriculture, we help our women have diversified opportunities to support their families. Raising pigs as a business is one of the ways many of our families have been able to earn extra income. When you support BOH, you are a part of providing sustainable opportunities like this to families in Uganda.

Every bead begins as a piece of paper that is cut, hand rolled, varnished, and strung. Making paper bead jewelry is a tedious process that requires skill, patience, and precision. Our women do incredible work and every piece is unique. We are proud of them and the incredible products they create!

We are grateful to work with incredible women in Uganda! So many of our women are the primary providers for their families, and oftentimes, they are raising many children and grandchildren at home alone. Our women are hard working, kind, and strong. We are so inspired by their example and it is a joy to know them! When you support BOH, you are investing in the empowerment of incredible women and their families.

People over programs....One of the things we value most during our trips to Uganda is our time with our women and students. Uganda's culture is deeply relational and it is so vital that we spend time with people and not just focus merely on program development. It is always our time with our women, students, and partner staff that seems to leave the deepest impression on all of us. We are so thankful for the families we work with! 💛

Let's talk strategy...Agriculture is a big part of the economy in our villages in Uganda, but it is also risky...(drought, sickness of animals, etc.). One of the ways to combat these risks is to diversify the investment in agriculture. Initially, we started just with crop based projects. But over the years we have seen the significant value of adding pigs and chickens to our projects. Currently, we have 5 agriculture projects that provide our women with support to grow a variety of crops and to raise chickens and pigs as businesses if they desire. For many of our women, this has led to an increase in income and greater food security. We are grateful for this and hope for continued success for our women! ✨
