We are delighted to invite you to the fifth session of our “Global Design Series”, a continuous series of inspiring discussions.

Data Centers and AI Infrastructure Boom: Conscientious Development

Behind exciting new AI architectural visualization tools lie a quieter but important discussion for the architecture industry: the infrastructure needed to power them. Please join us on April 8th for a presentation and subsequent small group discussion about data centers built to support our AI usage, and their impact on the built environment and local communities.

The discussion will be prefaced with a presentation by Erika Kessler putting New Albany, Ohio under a spotlight, a small town technological hotspot boasting big names such as Meta, Google, and Amazon. Using this case study, we will explore how rapid technological developments can reshape a sense of place. Together we will consider how Santa Barbara can proactively establish a strategy to embrace technological advancements in alignment with our community values and explore what our role is as designers and stewards of our community to guide these changes.

Since 1968, Brownstein has been more than a law firm – they have been a partner in building stronger communities, working hand-in-hand with local leaders to create solutions that matter. From expanding workforce and affordable housing to streamlining infrastructure and water projects, and through their recent work on the Agricultural Enterprise Ordinance, Brownstein remains committed to shaping a vibrant and thriving future for Santa Barbara for generations to come.

Haley launched her career in Santa Barbara in 2017 and looks forwards to sharing her professsional journey, along with insights from some of her most rewarding land use projects. At Brownstein, she specializes in land use due diligence reports and entitlements, including conditional use permits, coastal development permits, cannabis licensing, and lot line adjustments and lot splits. She currently serves as the Santa Barbara Subsection Director for the American Planning Association Central Coast Section, she is a long-time board member of the Association of Environmental Professionals Channel Counties Section, and previously served as a team co-leader for AIA’s State Street Design Charrette in 2020.

AIASB 2025 Design Awards Exhibit

The American Institute of Architects, Santa Barbara, proudly presents the 2025 Design Awards Exhibit at the Faulkner Gallery.

Open to the public from February 5 through February 27, 2026, the exhibit showcases the most inspiring and innovative architectural work of the year. A public reception will be held on the first Thursday, February 5, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, providing an opportunity to meet the architects and learn about the methodology and creative process behind their projects.
