Two historic ordinances are coming up for a vote:
1️⃣ July 14: A solar ordinance to allow solar in industrial and agricultural zones, opening up new income sources for farms (hello, agrivoltaics!) and helping us reach our 100% renewable energy goals.
2️⃣ Sept 15: An oil ordinance to prohibit new oil drilling, protecting our drinking water and saving millions in health-related costs.
Let’s embrace our 300 days of sunshine and transition to a cleaner, healthier future. 🌍💚

🗣️ Take Action: Make your voice heard! Email your support for these two ordinances to [email protected] or attend the upcoming Board of Supervisors meetings.

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on the Solar Ordinance on July 14, 2026, which would significantly expand where solar energy can be developed in the county

In this editorial, Katie Davis, Energy Chair, Sierra Club Santa Barbara-Ventura says "It will be a consequential summer for energy policy in Santa Barbara County. Currently, you can drill for oil, but you can’t put a solar farm in the same industrial site.

That is set to reverse with a Solar Ordinance to allow solar in industrial and agricultural zones coming to County Supervisors on July 14 and an Oil Ordinance to prohibit new oil drilling following September 15. "

Plastic-Free Policies & Ways to Take Action
🗓 Date: Friday, July 10, 2026
⏰ Time: 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
📍 Location: Community Environmental Council Hub, 1219 State Street, Santa Barbara

This event is completely FREE and open to all. We would love to have you and your friends join us!

We are thrilled to welcome speakers from Santa Barbara Channelkeeper and the Community Environmental Council (CEC). They will be sharing critical updates on current local and statewide legislation aimed at reducing single-use plastics.

You’ll learn exactly what policies are moving forward in California and, most importantly, what actions we as community members can take right now to help reduce plastic pollution.
