Sanctuary Centers

Sanctuary Centers Sanctuary Centers offers evidence-based programs and comprehensive behavioral health services. Visit us online to learn more, sanctuarycenters.org

Since 1976, Sanctuary Centers Santa Barbara has been honored to help more than 10,000 clients cope with severe mental illness, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, major depression, PTSD, and co-occurring disorder (mental illness coupled with alcohol or drug addiction). Sanctuary Centers was established as a private nonprofit organization in order to devote itself to these core principals:

An injured mind is no less deserving of attention than an injured body.
• Reduced costs and increased treatment availability enable more people with mental health challenges to receive the support they deserve.
• An accurate diagnosis leads to equally accurate treatment.
• Devoted, accomplished, and compassionate care experts accelerate wellbeing.
• Warm, safe, and thoughtful accommodations improve trust.
• Greater knowledge leads to improved practices.
• A community that adequately supports its most vulnerable citizens is a community that thrives. One in five people suffers a mental health challenge each year. One in 20 suffers a serious mental illness (SMI) which is wholly debilitating. Let's end the stigma and improve the care. Sanctuary Centers believes we are truly "Better Together."

Last Friday, clients, artists, and the local community came out to Sanctuary Centers Art Show in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. It was a beautiful, well-attended event and despite the gloomy weather, the vibrant art brought so much color and light to the day. Thank you to the extraordinary artists who reached out and participated in the event and to all who joined us in support. A special thanks to on State Street for keeping us caffeinated, Goleta for the delicious hand-pulled bagels, and Russel’s Donuts Ventura for the sweet treats.

Art will be hanging throughout the month of May, so stop by the clinic (23 W. Micheltorena street) M-F 9 to 5 to see the incredible art for yourself.

Last night, Sanctuary Centers’ staff had a blast at Rolling Together: Bowling Night at Bowlero. Our team is comprised of all levels of bowling skills, but regardless of skill, we had a great time knocking down a few pins and building camaraderie.

Thank you to all who came out and joined us!

Last week, Sanctuary Centers’ staff had the best time at the Annual Grilled Cheese Smackdown. We even managed to secure a prize for best looking sandwich. Our chefs were so busy grilling that we didn’t get to snap a photo of the award winning sammies, but take our word for it— the golden crispy crust was pretty good looking.

Proceeds from this event went to support the , a noteworthy organization. Looking forward to next year’s grill already!

Last Friday, staff and clients celebrated our annual SCSB softball game at Cabrillo Fields, and as usual, the clients won! It was a close game with some truly talented players and so much fun was had.

Thank you to the Sanctuary House staff who helped plan and coordinate the event and to all who showed up to play and cheer on these two teams.

The scaffolding and wrap have been removed and the building is looking quite nice. There’s still so much work to do inside and around the campus, but it’s so nice to see the fruits of two years of labor!

Visit Sanctuarycenters.org to learn more about the new building project.
