PEP: Postpartum Education for Parents

PEP: Postpartum Education for Parents Sharing the highs and lows of parenthood! PEP is a nonprofit volunteer organization that helps parents navigate the joys and challenges of early parenthood.

The core philosophy of PEP is that there is no one right way to parent. PEP services welcome and support all parents in finding their own unique approach to parenting. In an effort to reduce the impact of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), PEP’s parent volunteers nurture growing families through this adjustment period by directing them to resources and facilitating the building of peer

support networks. Our mission is to support growing families in the Santa Barbara area with opportunities for education, encouragement, and social engagement in a way that is non‐judgmental, inclusive, and community‐based. Whether this is your first baby or your third, there is always a period of transition when a new family member is born. By meeting other people going through the same stage of parenting at the same time, an undeniable bond is formed. We have PEP Groups that continue to meet on a weekly basis for years and years, even through second generations! We’re thrilled when we see friendships form that last a lifetime. Our dedicated group of trained volunteers are passionate about serving Santa Barbara’s community of new families. We are proud to offer the majority of PEP’s services free of charge, and to be recommended by many local professional organizations. If you would like to find out more about the many wonderful services that PEP offers, please explore our website or feel free to call our Warmline with questions.

January 30th is Parent’s Mental Health Day (PMHD).

PMHD is an annual event founded to highlight the crucial link between parents’ well-being and family health. It exists to offer support, resources, and help caregivers manage stress, create digital balance, and strengthen family bonds. This day encourages parents to prioritize self-care, provides practical strategies for healthier routines, and connects families with mental health support services that can support well-being all year long.

It’s a beautiful reminder that taking care of you is also taking care of your family. 💙

We here at PEP know that when parents are supported, entire families thrive. Right now, many parents across the U.S. are burnt out, overwhelmed, and trying to manage far too much on their own. You are not meant to do this without support — and you are not alone. PEP exists to remind you that help, connection, and care are part of healthy parenting, not signs of weakness.

So on January 30th, we invite you to take a moment just for yourself. Give something back to you, even if it’s as simple as a quiet 20-minute walk, a cup of tea while it’s still hot, or a few deep breaths in the car before going inside. Small moments of care matter more than you think.

And remember, you’re doing amazing.💙

Right now, building community may feel like the only lifeline. As parents, we take on so much and try to protect our children from a world that can feel overwhelming.

PEP is a free community for parents — a place to listen, to be listened to, and to lift each other up.
