A scholarship established in honor of AIA Honorary President Jane C. Waldbaum to assist students with the expenses associated with participation in archaeological field schools

Anna Marguerite McCann Award for Fieldwork Reports
Deadline: March 15, 2024

The award committee will recommend a report on fieldwork (e.g. excavation and/or survey) that it deems most worthy of recognition each year.

Attention all field school students: the Waldbaum Archaeological Field School scholarship deadline is fast approaching. This funding can help cover the costs of an archaeological field school, such as tuition, travel, and other expenses. At the 2024 Annual Meeting, we saw many posters featuring exciting archaeological work from around the world, from ancient leather to maritime connectivity. Three posters were selected as winners for this year's AIA Poster Award:

Best Poster Award: Elizabeth (Beth) M. Greene, Rhiannon Stevens, Barbara Birley, and Gillian Taylor (Species Analysis of Leather Objects and Manufacturing Offcuts from Vindolanda, UK)

First Runner-Up Poster Award: Jennifer S. Tafe, Cole M. Smith, and Eleni Hasaki (Nikosthenes’ Networks of Production and Trade)

Best Student Poster Award: Nick Bowman (Maritime Connectivity and Mobility in the Southeastern Aegean During the Neopalatial Period: A GIS-Based Approach)

AIA Archaeology Hour will return on Wednesday, February 28 for "Barbarians,” Bronzes, and the Legendary Capital of Ancient Vietnam. This lecture, presented by Nam C. Kim (University of Wisconsin), explores the archaeological record of Vietnam, as well as the region's national imagination, cultural heritage, and descendant identities.
