Honoring our Ancestors 🌼💀🕯️

Join Tribal Trust Foundation for a Día de los Mu***os evening with friends & family, as we celebrate 30 years of Indigenous-led programming here in Santa Barbara and around the world.

Bring a photo of a loved one to add to our community altar, curated by local artist Holly Sherwin. Enjoy live music, w**e, light bites, and a guided journey through the generations, time, and space.

Receiving these photos brought us so much joy and we are so happy to be able to share them with you now. ❤️

Over a decade ago we responded to the San’s request for support and collaboration. Since then we have been working toward building this school together. Near Nhoma Camp, in Namibia, Ju/’hoansi children are now learning in their own community at /xoa-//he, an Indigenous-led school whose name means “life together.” For so long, children had to travel far from home — often in unsafe conditions — to attend school. Now they can learn close to their families, culture, and community.

This is a beautiful example of Two-Eyed Seeing: honoring Indigenous knowledge, language, and ways of life while also creating space for children to gain the tools they need to thrive in the wider world. Now the children do not have to choose between learning and belonging.

Impactful cultural honoring, education, revitalization, and community building by Maria Elena “Mia” Lopez convener of The SPACE at Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara. Important and powerful collaborations and healing happening here. Absolutely beautiful exhibit. Thank you to all who came together to make this happen. City of Santa Barbara let’s make next year Old Cultural Days and Fiesta is just one part of the many beautiful and important traditions of Santa Barbara being celebrated! 🙏🏻🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏾🙏🏿🥳🌍

Stewardship of the Amazon jungle and the people who live and care for the more than human beings who live there too, is critical for life on Earth. Deep in the Peruvian Amazon, the Shipibo-Konibo people carry knowledge found nowhere else — plant medicine, nature’s wisdom, and a worldview where art and healing are one. 🌿

Through our partnership with Bari Wesna, we’re honored to help preserve and share these living traditions, led by the Shipibo-Konibo community itself.

For many years, Tribal Trust Foundation has walked alongside the Monpa — the original peoples of Bhutan’s Black Forest — in their own effort to keep their language, wisdom, and way of life alive for future generations.

The Monpa asked TTF to help them preserve their ancient culture, rooted in living in harmony with nature and each other. We were the first organization to support their cultural preservation initiatives, beginning over 12 years ago.

In our 30th anniversary year, we are humbled to continue this sacred partnership. Ancient wisdom is not the past — it is the medicine the world needs now. 📷 archives and 🙌

So grateful to have been back at 48th annual festival in Telluride. 🏔️🌊

Under the visionary direction of , the “Evidence-Based Hope” symposium brought together voices building the world we need:

Then came Ocean Symphony — standing on a small boat off Baja California, playing double bass through underwater speakers while humpback whales sang back. Filmed by . Lots of tears.

We were also honored to witness the HOMEGROWN Indigenous & Global Stories filmmaker showcase — a powerful partnership between and amplifying underrepresented voices from the Mountain West. Exactly the stories our world needs.

This is our medicine too at Tribal Trust Foundation. And next year? We hope to bring our own film to these mountains. 🙏
