Thanks to the generosity of our community, our blood drive exceeded its goal. We received 21 life-saving units from 20 participants in the Vitalant bloodmobile. That’s enough to potentially help save up to 63 lives.

Special thanks to Ellen Chase for coordinating this effort and to everyone who donated, "We exceeded our goal with 20 participants. Thank you to all who came out – you saved lives!"

The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise installed our final two Peace Poles of the year at Peabody Charter and Vieja Valley Elementary Schools. As part of Rotary District 5240’s Peacebuilder initiative, we are dedicated to addressing the root causes of conflict, such as poverty, inequality, lack of access to education, and limited economic opportunity, through meaningful service and community engagement.

By placing Peace Poles at nine elementary school campuses throughout Santa Barbara, we hope to inspire students, staff, and families to think about the role each of us plays in creating a more peaceful and inclusive world.

As Rotary clubs around the world participated in the Epic Day of Service this weekend, our partnership with our sister club, Club Rotario Celaya Nat-Tha-Hi in Mexico, continued changing lives through their annual cataract clinic.

More surgeries were completed on day two, with additional more complex cases scheduled for a later date. We are grateful for this 35-year tradition of service and international friendship.

Several of our members volunteered at yesterday’s inaugural Fiesta Dog Parade hosted by Old Spanish Days. President Elect Angelique Davis served as chairperson of the event, Boris Alves and Scott Burns volunteered on the parade route, and Judith McCaffrey, Paul, Bella and Buddy joined the parade looking quite groovy!

Another wonderful way our club participated in Rotary’s Epic Day of Service!

Today, club members joined City of Santa Barbara Parks & Recreation staff at Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens for a morning of community service and beautification. Led by club member Diana Washburn, volunteers laid cardboard for w**d suppression and spread mulch in preparation for future planting in the park.

It was also a wonderful surprise to welcome former club member Betty Huff, visiting from Alabama, who joined the project while in town this weekend.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy on this Rotary EPIC Day of Service to help care for one of Santa Barbara’s treasured public spaces!
