Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County LAFSBC is a non-profit law firm that provides free legal assistance to Santa Barbara County residents.

We provide high-quality civil legal services to low-income and other vulnerable residents in order to ensure equal access to justice. Our mission is to ensure that low-income people and seniors have access to the civil justice system - to secure safe shelter, adequate income, and protection from domestic violence.

This summer, we welcomed our intern, Valeria Tiburcio Romo. A first-generation college student at UC Irvine, Valeria has dreamed of becoming a lawyer for as long as she can remember. Her passion for law has grown through a two-year mentorship with our Legal Director and Consumer Protection Attorney, Kate Lee, whom she first met through Mission Scholars.

During her internship, Valeria had the opportunity to support a client by helping gather important documents for their case.

“It was exhilarating,” she shared. “I went home with the biggest smile.”

The experience gave Valeria a firsthand look at the impact legal advocates can have in people’s lives and strengthened her goal of attending law school and pursuing a career in immigration law or diplomacy.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County is looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate attorney who will thrive in a nonprofit law firm and is committed to serving low-income clients.

As part of our housing team, you’ll work alongside other attorneys to advise and represent low-income families, people with disabilities, and senior tenants in eviction defense, landlord-tenant matters, fair housing, and more.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County is looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) Legal Assistant to join our Santa Barbara Legal Resource Center.

This part-time, in-person position is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about serving the community and helping individuals navigate the civil legal system. Working under the supervision of a licensed attorney, you'll assist self-represented litigants, provide interpretation services, help prepare court forms, and support access to justice for those who need it most.

Position Details:
📍 Santa Barbara Legal Resource Center (Santa Barbara Courthouse)
⏰ 12–15 hours per week (morning hours preferred)
💲 $24–$30/hour, depending on experience
🌐 Bilingual English/Spanish required

In a partnership with the Colleges of Law and the Association of Corporate Counsel of Southern California, the Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County is offering a FREE Estate Planning Pro Bono Workshop, where volunteer attorneys will provide assistance with estate planning documents, including powers of attorney and advance healthcare directives.
