Together, we saved San Marcos Foothills. Words can’t begin to describe how thankful we are for all of your hard work, dedication and love for the land. Each of you played a huge role. Time to celebrate you as well as all the incredible businesses who supported our efforts. ⁣

Thursday through Sunday we will have a list of businesses to go support and give love to while also gifting yourself with adventure, amazing food, cold beverages, yoga and much more. ⁣

Please take time to treat yourself this weekend! You worked so hard along side us and now is the time to take a moment and say OUT LOUD “ I helped Save San Marcos Foothills” and keep saying it all weekend long as this is the code word to receive your gifts. 😉⁣

We just wanted to hop on and say we are feeling deep gratitude to each and every one of you. Thank you for your patience as we take some much needed time offline. Together we reached our $18.6 milestone to fund the purchase of the 101 acre West Mesa of the San Marcos Foothills! Just WOW!!! 🍃🦉🌾🐺🪶⁣

This exciting first phase was made possible by the generous contributions of cash, pledges, and bridge loans from over 5,500 community members! WITHOUT EACH OF YOU this would not have been possible!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽⁣
⁣
The purchase will help create 300 acres of contiguous wildlife habitat, honor Chumash heritage, maintain open space, and provide environmental education opportunities. ⁣
⁣
We will soon be moving into Phase 2 of the fundraising campaign, which will fill out the rest of the campaign, where we will be able to retire short and long-term loans,⁣
create an endowment, pay any final costs, and help to restore and steward the land into the future with public input the entire way!!! ⁣
⁣
🎉🎉🎉We look forward to celebrating the community's amazing effort in a series of Covid-conscience events in the near future. 🎉🎉🎉⁣

TOGETHER! We have raised the funding to reach the goal!!!!!!!! 💃🏻🕺🏿🥳🤩

The Foothills Forever team is excited to announce that we have reached our $18.6 milestone to fund the purchase of the 101 acre West Mesa of the San Marcos Foothills.
This exciting first phase was made possible by the generous contributions: donations of cash, pledges, & bridge loans by over 5,500 community members!
Our legal team is working to complete the complicated transaction so that we can acquire the property – this may take a few days.‼️

As we celebrate the completion of the first phase of the $20 million campaign, we ask those with outstanding pledges to please contact us to make arrangements for payment.

We will soon be moving into Phase 2 of the fundraising campaign, which will fill out the rest of the campaign, where we will be able to retire short- and long-term bridge loans, create an endowment, pay any final costs, and help to restore and steward the land into the future.

The purchase will help create 300 acres of contiguous wildlife habitat, honor Chumash heritage, maintain open space, and provide environmental education opportunities.

We do not anticipate major changes to the land. The West Mesa is being preserved by a community led effort to maintain this grassland open space for future generations to enjoy. Over the next few weeks and months, we will be continuing docent led tours of the property on a regular basis to be announced on our website (FoothillsForever.org), or by reservation. This fall, Channel Islands Restoration will bring sheep in to help control the invasive vegetation.

During this time, we will also be working on the plan for long-term stewardship, this will take some time and will involve community input. We want this process to be public, open and transparent.

We had a great weekend! 🥳

As of this morning we have counted $18,430,308 including cash & pledges. We are continuing to count funds received over the weekend, and we are very optimistic!! 🤩

The campaign is continuing to gain support and momentum! over $17.9 million has been committed by our local community to help purchase the San Marcos Foothills West Mesa! 🌱

‼️We still need to raise $699,000 by June 9th!‼️

Latest News:
Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors Support Foothills Forever!

All five members of the Board of Supervisor supported the proposal to allocate $2 million to purchase a section of the West Mesa to be added to the existing County Preserve. This proposal will still need to work its way through the County budget and review process, but we are optimistic that these funds will be available later this Summer and will help retire the short-term bridge financing that was provided by Montecito Bank & Trust🙌🏼🙌🏼.
