STUDENT SPOTLIGHT ✨
We wanted to shine a light on one of our amazing students, Kevin (17), who has been putting in the work learning the first part of his sax solo for “Chitlins Con Carne” by Kenny Burrell, with the sax part originally played by Stanley Turrentine.
We are so proud of Kevin and can’t wait to see him continue to grow as a musician 🎷 We hope you enjoy seeing the hard work our students put in behind the scenes each week.

Stay tuned to follow his progress, along with the A Combo’s journey on this track! 🎶

As promised… PART 2 🎶

Our students were invited to the Lobero Theatre to share the stage with Derek Douget and his band the night after the workshop. With very little notice, one of our bands stepped up to the opportunity and absolutely delivered. We are incredibly proud of these students for their courage, musicianship, and professionalism under such short notice. Opportunities like this don’t come around often, and they truly rose to the moment.

We want to extend another special thank you to and Laurie from the Bentson Foundation for making this opportunity possible, and to Derek Douget and his amazing band for sharing the stage.

Here are some photos and videos from that unforgettable night on the Lobero stage!🎷

Another incredible Artist Visit Week! 🎶

For the 5th year in a row, we welcomed Grammy Award–winning saxophonist Derek Douget and his incredible band . Last Wednesday, our students had the amazing opportunity to learn from and play alongside these professional musicians during a special workshop. Throughout the session, they listened, learned, asked questions, and experienced what it’s like to grow as musicians with guidance from veteran artists.

We are so grateful to continue this special tradition each year and to everyone who helps make opportunities like this possible for our students. A special thank you to and Laurie from the Bentson Foundation for making this workshop possible, and to The Downtown Club for generously allowing us to host the workshop in their space.

The experience didn’t stop there. At the end of the workshop, our students received an incredible invitation — to join Derek Douget and his band the very next night for a performance at the Lobero Theatre.

Stay tuned for Part 2… 🎶

CREATING THE PERFECT SOLO!🥁🔥 Eduardo, 16 has been putting in the work and is currently learning and refining his drum solo for a very groovy tune titled “Built for Comfort” by Howlin’ Wolf. His timing, confidence, and feel continue to grow each week, and it’s been incredible to watch him lock into the groove and make the solo his own.
Enjoy the clip — and stay tuned for more epic student progress updates coming your way! 🎶
