Last Thursday, the Fire Safe Council helped organize the First Annual Wildfire Resilience Collaborative, a meeting of over 120 city and county officials, agency representatives, local practitioners, academics and researchers, community members, and members of other nonprofit organizations.🔥🤝

The discussions throughout the day highlighted both the complexity of wildfire resilience and the incredible depth of knowledge, experience, and commitment that exists across Santa Barbara County and beyond. From defining resilience and identifying meaningful indicators, to improving communication strategies and exploring more equitable approaches to prioritization, the insights gained from this Collaborative will help inform future collaboration and regional efforts moving forward.

We are especially grateful for the willingness of participants to engage openly across disciplines, organizations, and sectors. Building wildfire resilience requires continued coordination, shared understanding, and strong partnerships, and this convening was an important step in that process.

This event was coordinated by the Santa Barbara County Fire Safe Council and UCSB Wildfire Prevention and Policy Lecture Series, with support from the Chumash Resource Conservation District.

Funding was provided by a grant for County Coordination from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection as part of the California Climate Investments Program, through the California Fire Safe Council - this institution is an equal opportunity provider - and by the UCSB Wildfire Prevention and Policy Lecture Series.

Protecting homes from wildfire isn’t just about safety-- it’s one of the most powerful ways we can protect the planet. When landscapes are proactively managed through defensible space, fuel reduction, and prescribed fire, we prevent the kind of catastrophic wildfires that release massive amounts of carbon and devastate ecosystems.

By preparing for wildfire today, we’re not just reducing risk—we’re investing in a healthier, more climate-resilient future for our communities and our planet.

Celebrate Earth Day by giving back. Donate at the link in bio to support wildfire prevention & mitigation efforts today.

Spring has sprung and you know that that means? Time to prepare for fire season in the most adorable way possible, by utilizing sheep and goats! 🐑🐏🌱

These four-legged fire fighters are hard at work reducing fuel loads and you will see them throughout the area over the next few months. Electric fencing and Livestock Guardian Dogs are in use to keep the herd safe so if you happen to come across one of the paddocks, please keep your distance from the fence line, leash dogs, and maintain control of children.

Funding for this project provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s (CAL FIRE) Wildfire Prevention Grants Program as part of the California Climate Investments Program.
