This is going to be a fantastic Zoom seminar featuring 6 different ‘versions’ of Grenache - from a sparkling Grenache Blanc to a ‘still’ Grenache Blanc to a Grenache Rose to 3 distinctly different Grenaches from 3 different regions - Santa Barbara County, Sonoma and Southern Oregon.

Did a Grenache tasting with good friends last night. One of the ‘winners’ last night - a 2014 Grenache Blanc from Tablas Creek Winery bottled under screw cap.

We set out to see which of the wines showed ‘typicity’ of the variety and this one nailed it - slight petrol on the nose, great stone fruit aromatics, fantastic rich mouthfeel from some bottle aging, and still some great acid to round it out.

This wine typifies the beauty of white rhones and how they can develop so wonderfully in bottle.

Hey folks! The Santa Barbara County Chapter of the Rhone Rangers is doing their next live Zoom tasting, and this time it's featuring Syrahs from throughout the County!

We're excited to feature a wine from the very first Syrah block planted in the county (Black Bear block in the Zaca Mesa Vineyard), the OG of SBC Syrah pouring one of the more 'famous' vineyards and blocks for the variety in the County (Bob Lindquist and the Z Block at Bien Nacido Vineyards), a lovely cool climate example of the variety from the Sta Rita Hills poured by Matt Brady of Samsara, and an elegant 'Cote-Rotie' styled Syrah from the Larner Vineyard in Ballard Canyon poured be tercero wines (my unreleased 2014 Larner Vyd Syrah).

The Zoom takes place next Thursday, February 4th at 6pm PST and will be moderated by Lamar Engel of the Wine Militia. You can register for this going here:
