We are pleased to welcome five students from Cristo Rey Orange County High School to CCOC as part of their work-study program for this academic year. The students, Mariana, Isabella, Arisbeth, Leah, and Viviann (who is returning for a second year), will be joining our Citizenship & Immigration, Finance & Administration, and Communication & Development teams at Catholic Charities of Orange County.

We were delighted to participate in The Cristo Rey Network's Corporate Work Study program again this year and look forward to their contributions to our organization.

Thank you to for this opportunity to work together and support each other.

READY OR NOT, the new school year is just around the corner. As parents prepare for the first day back, many are busy checking off lists that include uniforms, school supplies, lunch boxes, classroom donations and all the essentials needed for a successful year. But one important item is often overlooked: preparing both children and parents emotionally and mentally for the transition back to school.

Thank you, for your generous gift to New Hope Counseling Services through the Sacrificial Giving program. We are stronger together in our mission to make our community more resilient.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church also supported the St. Lawrence Fund, a cooperative between Catholic Charities of Orange County and the deacons of the Diocese of Orange, as well as other Diocesan Ministries, including Hope & Healing After Abortion and the inaugural Springs of Love Building Belonging support group for adoptive, foster, and discerning families.

All this happened the week we celebrate the Feast of St. Lawrence! Your support on that special day to celebrate our common goal was greatly appreciated. 💕

⚠️ Alert: Scammers use Catholic Charities name to target those seeking immigration legal services ⚠️

Scammers, claiming to represent Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) or Catholic Charities agencies, are asking victims to provide personal information and collecting fees to “enroll” in non-existent immigration legal programs. Often, a scammer reaches out via email, messaging or social media platforms, offering immigration assistance. Scammers claim they are from Catholic Charities and ask for private and personal information. They may reference some type of immigration case or process. Payments are requested over Zelle or other digital payment solutions.
If you encounter this scam or suspect that you have been solicited by a scammer, do not respond, provide information, or send money! Contact your local Catholic Charities agency to inquire about legitimate immigration legal services they may offer. The Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC) offers additional resources on identifying and preventing immigration services fraud:

“The shepherd cannot run at the first sign of danger."

While he served in Guatemala, a civil war raged between the militarist government forces and the guerrillas. The Catholic Church was caught in the middle due to its insistence on catechizing and educating the people. During this conflict, thousands of Catholics were killed. Eventually, Father Rother’s name appeared on a death list. For his safety and that of his associate, Father Rother returned home to Oklahoma. He didn’t stay long, though, as he was determined to give his life completely to his people, stating that “the shepherd cannot run.” He returned to Santiago Atitlan to continue the work of the mission.

Within a few months, three men entered the rectory around 1 a.m. on July 28, 1981, fought with Father Rother and then executed him. His death shocked the Catholic world. No one was ever held responsible. The people of Santiago Atitlan mourned the loss of their leader and friend. They requested that Father Rother’s heart be kept in Guatemala where it remains enshrined today.
