Over the course of the past few weeks, our Ashod Yergat members joined the entire AYF organization in rallying against recent Azerbaijani aggression in Armenia and encouraged others to take immediate action. Several ungers also came together with our Aghpiur Serop Juniors Chapter to plan ways to advocate, spread awareness in our own communities, and become ANCA Rapid Responders.

Last night, our Orange County community came together to honor and commemorate the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide. Our AYF Aghpuir Serop Juniors sang beautifully along with an amazing speech by AYF Ashod Yergat executive member Gregory Codilian.

On Tuesday April 12th, a demonstration against Mayor Khan’s verbal discrimination against Armenians was held at Irvine City Hall as a large group of Armenians came up to express their disappointment. Community members such as Jim Yogurtian, Garo Madenlian, Robert Torossian, Gev Iskajyan, Eric Nesganian, Violet Bulujian, and Hagop Badolian were amazing representatives for the Armenian community in making sure Mayor Farrah Khan is held accountable for her actions.

Mayor Farrah Khan did not say anything until the end where she denied having said anything racist/armenophobic and also denied the fact that she does have genocide deniers in her committees.

We requested the following demands to Mayor Khan and the Irvine City Council:
1. Remove all Armenian Genocide deniers from all Mayoral Advisory or City of Irvine Committees
2. Sponsor the Genocide Education Project to train educators in Irvine public schools on how to teach students about the Armenian Genocide
3. Declare April 24 of every year as a permanent day of remembrance in the City of Irvine for all victims of the Armenian Genocide and all crimes against humanity
4. Call on US President Biden and Congress to enforce Section 907, to stop arming Azerbaijan as it along with Turkey continue the Armenian Genocide today in Artsakh, and to send humanitarian aid to the peaceful and indigenous Armenian population there
