We are delighted to announce that Sara Hazel has been appointed as the President & CEO of the Denver Public Schools Foundation!

Sara brings with her an impressive 20 years of nonprofit development and leadership experience, making her exceptionally qualified to lead our organization’s next chapter. Throughout her career, Sara has demonstrated a deep commitment to public education and community building, making her an ideal fit for this role.

As a proud DPS parent and advocate, Sara's personal investment in our mission is evident in every aspect of her work.

“When the DPS Foundation Board of Directors began the search for a new President & CEO, we sought an experienced leader to lead the DPS Foundation’s next chapter of growth who also showed strong commitment to public education and our mission. Sara embodies all of this and more,” said Carmon Hicks, DPS Foundation’s Board Chair. “We are eager for Sara to step into the CEO role as her leadership has been an instrumental part of DPS Foundation’s recent success."

Sara joined DPS Foundation in May of 2020, after management and leadership roles at global, national and local organizations, including The Red Cross, The American Cancer Society, and Girls Inc. of Metro Denver. Her ability to challenge systems, foster innovation, and build exceptional teams has already had a profound impact on our organization. Sara is involved locally with many organizations, including as a Board Member of City Year Denver, Denver Women’s Commission Member, and Development Committee Member at Lighthouse Writers Workshop.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sara for her leadership, as well as to the DPS Foundation Board, our outstanding team, and our community for their unwavering support. Together, under Sara's leadership, we are confident that we will continue to make significant strides in advancing public education and ensuring our students thrive.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Sara Hazel as our new President & CEO!
