Louie can’t see much but he can hear like a hawk.

600 yards away there is a horse ranch and someone said something Louie didn’t like.

I look forward to this everyday

Today, we received a call about an injured duck that needed help.

A kindhearted lady had noticed the duck was injured and had been doing what she could to care for her.

She had even brought her a bowl of water, and the sweet duck drank from it.

When we arrived, I recognized her as a Cayuga duck, a domestic breed I’ve cared for before.

I was able to walk right up to her and pick her up.

I could see she was scraped up pretty badly and, she couldn’t walk.

We loaded her into the truck and started calling veterinarians to see who could get us in.

Being a Saturday, that wasn’t easy. But, we found a veterinarian willing to see her right away.

After a thorough examination, it was determined that her injuries were too severe, and she was suffering.

The kindest and most humane decision was to let her go peacefully.

And that’s never an easy decision.

I didn’t know this duck.

She had never lived at Clear Creek Adventure Ranch.

We didn’t raise her, and until today, we didn’t even know she existed.

But that doesn’t mean her life mattered any less.

So after leaving the veterinarian, I brought her back to our sanctuary.

I felt like the right thing to do was to give her a proper burial here on the ranch.

Maybe it doesn’t make a difference to a duck where she’s buried.

But, who knows

I’d like to believe that it matters.

And even if it doesn’t matter to her, it matters to me.

And I want to thank the kind lady who noticed her suffering and cared enough to reach out for help.

That matters
