We're so pleased to announce that Fox 35's weekend anchor Manny Martinez FOX 35 will be our Master of Ceremonies for this year's Gratitude in Action. For several years, Manny has told the stories of Rescue Outreach Mission and shared the important work with his audience.

Gratitude in Action is just around the corner on September 17. It's one of the best events to share with friends and family to encourage them to help those men, women and children in Seminole County who are experiencing homelessness.

When families experience homelessness, school is often a respite from the trauma they are going through. Today was the first day of school, and the children who are staying at Rescue Outreach Mission were prepared to learn and succeed.

With the help of our community, we recently held a special event to ensure our children were registered and had the supplies they needed to push forward.

Thank you to Families In Need - FIN, Summit Church and and so many other donors for making the first day special for our youngest guests.

It's collaboration like this that helps improve the lives of so many. We pray for a day when no child ever experiences homelessness, but we can do everything we can to make their lives better when they do.

Every kid deserves to celebrate the end of summer - especially those who are guests of Rescue Outreach Mission! Their housing instability may be temporary, but the memory of a joyful summer day lasts a lifetime.

We're so thankful to for joining us and hosting the annual See Ya Summer party for our children. Seeing the smiles on our children makes everything we do here worth the time and effort.

Don't hesitate to reach out to find a way you can bring a smile to our children or any of the more than 100 people staying with us every night. Just one little act of kindness can mean so much.

Last week, our team joined the County Chamber for the annual State of Our Schools address.

We're proud of our partnership with County Public Schools, but every day, too many children in our community come to our great schools after sleeping someplace other than their home. This significantly impacts their ability to learn and reach their full potential.

At our shelter, we try to provide some sense of normalcy to children experiencing homelessness, whether it is with computers for homework, books on the shelves and special events for holidays, but it is never enough because the need is so great.

We pray for a world where someday every child has their own bed and their own room, but until then, we will be here helping the children of Seminole County find a pathway to a permanent home.

Happy Birthday, Harry Potter.

Most fans remember the moment Harry Potter gave Dobby a sock and changed his life forever.

While we haven't seen any house elves around Rescue Outreach Mission, we do know that socks are one of the items we need most—and one of the first things to run out.

Community isn't always built in a boardroom. Sometimes it's built around a bingo card.

That's what happened when the team from CPPI spent the afternoon at Rescue Outreach Mission.

They called bingo, handed out prizes, shared plenty of laughs and, most importantly, spent time getting to know our guests. Before long, everyone in the room was cheering, joking and hoping to hear the next number called.

A sock changed Dobby's life.

There is a common misconception about who comes to Rescue Outreach Mission.

Many people picture chronic homelessness or assume everyone staying here has the same story. The reality is much more complex.

Families, veterans, individuals facing a medical crisis, someone escaping domestic violence or a person who simply had nowhere else to turn can all find themselves needing temporary shelter. We've seen a significant increase in the number of seniors looking for help.

Recently, our CEO Chris Ham had the opportunity to talk with WESH 2 News about homelessness in Seminole County, the people we serve, and the role Rescue Outreach Mission plays in helping individuals and families move toward stability.

Community partnerships come in many forms.

Recently, members of the collected personal care items and other necessities for the guests at Rescue Outreach Mission.

Donations like these help ensure we have everyday items available when people arrive at the shelter. They may seem simple, but they're often among the first items someone needs while rebuilding their lives.

Every summer has those days when it's simply too hot to be outside for long. It seems like we keep having more and more of those days too.

Fortunately, Elaine and Kellie Connors are always thinking of new ways to make summer a little more fun for the children staying at Rescue Outreach Mission.

Recently, they brought ice cream, water balloons and plenty of smiles for an afternoon that gave the kids a chance to cool off, laugh and simply enjoy being kids.

We're grateful for Elaine and Kellie, not just for this afternoon, but for the many ways they continue to invest their time and care in the families we serve.
