Rotary was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris of Chicago, IL. Today, Rotary International is an organization of service clubs known as Rotary Clubs located all over the world. It is a secular organization open to all persons regardless of race, color, creed, gender, or political preference. There are more than 35,000 clubs and over 1.4 million members worldwide. The stated purpose of the organization is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Members usually meet weekly for breakfast, lunch or dinner, which is a social event as well as an opportunity to organize work on their service goals. The Jonesboro Rotary Club (Sanford, NC, USA) was established in 1985. In 2007 and 2024 Jonesboro Rotary became a "Triple Crown Club" which is: 100% Paul Harris Fellow Membership, 100% Sustaining Membership($100 per year to the Foundation) and a 100% Polio Plus Sustaining (at least $100 per member to Polio Plus) Club.
