On behalf of the Sanford Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #140, we are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of retired K9 Edo.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Officer W. Harrison, his family, and everyone who had the privilege of working alongside Edo. His dedication, loyalty, and service will always be remembered.

“K9 Edo retired from the Sanford Police Department on October 29th, 2018. During his 5 years with the force, Edo performed outstandingly in recovering narcotics from the streets, doing apprehensions, drug sniffs, public demos, and deployments. After he retired, he spent his time taking sun baths and enjoying some quiet home life with his human family. Today, it is with immense pain and sadness that I share the passing of our beloved Edo. I want to thank everyone who took time to stopped and inquire about him over the years. Thank you to every officer, supervisor, quartermaster, and civilian staff, for making Edo’s career a successful one. I especially want to thank Chief Smith and former Deputy Chief Raimondo, for giving me the opportunity to work with such a great partner. He will be greatly missed, but he will never be forgotten.

President Bill Erwin and Secretary Chris French recently attended the 2026 Florida Fraternal Order of Police Board of Trustees Conference in Orlando.

During the conference, President Erwin was re-elected as Treasurer of the Florida State FOP Executive Board and was also re-elected as Treasurer for District 7.

Secretary French was re-elected as Outer Guard of the Florida State FOP Executive Board. In addition, he was appointed as a District 7 Board Member (Assistant Director) and was named Chairman of the Credentials & Elections Committee.

These appointments and re-elections reflect the confidence and trust placed in their leadership by FOP members throughout the state. Sanford FOP Lodge #140 is proud to have our lodge represented at both the district and state levels, ensuring the voices of our members continue to be heard and advocated for across Florida.

This Memorial Day, the Sanford FOP Lodge 140 would like to take a moment to honor and recognize the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we cherish every day. Their courage, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We would also like to thank all those who have served or are currently serving with the Sanford Police Department. Your commitment to protecting and serving our community does not go unnoticed.

As many enjoy time with family and friends today, please remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and keep the families of our fallen heroes in your thoughts.

Sanford FOP Lodge #140 President Bill Erwin attended the 45th National Peace Officers' Memorial Service which was held at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. The event, hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police was part of National Police Week to honor officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Sanford FOP Lodge #140 was honored once again to support the 14th Annual Matt Miller Police Motor Skills Challenge. The Sanford FOP proudly provided our signature BBQ lunch to the riders and support staff on the day of the event, and also served lunch to spectators in exchange for donations to the Matt Miller Fund.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity, $277.00 was raised this year in support of a great cause. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this event and look forward to supporting it for many years to come.

Sgt. Fontana proudly served with the Sanford Police Department until his retirement in 1998. His dedication to law enforcement and to the Sanford community will always be remembered.

Please keep his family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
