Recognizing World Fanconi Anemia Awareness Month

This May, we stand with the Fanconi anemia community and raise awareness for the role cord blood stem cells can play in treatment.

FDA-approved cord blood stem cell transplants may be used to treat inherited blood disorders, including Fanconi anemia.

Cord blood donation can help provide lifesaving stem cells for patients in need of a transplant. By donating, families may give another family hope for treatment, healing, and more time together.

Together, we support research, honor those affected, and strive for a cure.

🚨Watch Out for Look-Alike Alcoholic Drinks This Memorial Day Weekend 🚨

As we head into Memorial Day weekend with family, friends, and cookouts, here’s an important reminder to check your coolers and fridges carefully—especially if children are around.
Many alcoholic beverages now look nearly identical to popular kids’ drinks like:

With similar packaging, bright colors, and familiar logos, it’s easy for a child to mistake an alcoholic drink for their favorite juice or soda. This can lead to accidental alcohol poisoning—especially in young kids whose bodies can't process alcohol the same way.

Tips to keep kids safe:
âś… Keep alcoholic drinks in a separate cooler or out of reach
✅ Don’t assume “it’s obvious” which drinks have alcohol
âś… Read labels carefully before handing any drink to a child
âś… Talk to older kids and teens about the risks

If you suspect a child has accidentally consumed alcohol, call Poison Help right away at 1-800-222-1222. We are available 24/7 for fast, free and confidential care.

Let’s celebrate safely. A few extra seconds of caution can prevent a life-threatening mistake.

FREE DOOR ALARMS: May is Water Safety Month and the Seminole County Community Health Division and the Seminole County Fire Department are partnering to distribute door alarms at no cost – courtesy of The Wesley Seth Foundation.

Door alarms can be installed on doors leading to the pool area of a home. They alert parents and caregivers when exit doors are opened, helping to prevent children from accessing the pool area unsupervised. These alarms are one of several barriers of protections to help prevent childhood drowning. Adult supervision, swim survival lessons, learning CPR, and installing other proper barriers should also be utilized.

A limited supply of door alarms is available to Seminole County residents at no cost (while supplies last.) To request one, enter your contact information on the Seminole County Community Health Division website at www.seminolecountyfl.gov/communityhealth
