Great Lakes Boxer Rescue We are a group of volunteers dedicated to saving the lives of boxers! We rescue, heal & rehabilitate. When boxers are in need, GLBR volunteers will respond.

We at Great Lakes Boxer Rescue take in abandoned, sick, and unwanted boxers in the Great Lakes Region (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois). We are an all-volunteer group of dedicated individuals who have the hearts and passion to help this amazing breed. We have, and will continue on a daily basis, to make as much of a difference to as many boxers that we can, to care for, rehabilitate, and to help

them overcome any known mental or medical issues that are apparent. We will then closely screen, including doing home visits, for any potential adopter, to ensure that each dog, is re-homed into the best home possible for that particular dog. Our mission includes hands-on rescue, as well as educating as many people as we can about the breed and the need to spay and neuter your animals, and to stop the overpopulation of animals. It is our hope that our efforts will enhance the lives of people as well as the dogs. It is our hope and determination that we can make a difference in this world to help one dog at a time, as many times as we can.

⭐ Cada is onto the GREAT life! Congratulations Michelle, Brian, and canine sibling Stella Moon!

🐾Cada came to Great Lakes Boxer Rescue when his owner made the difficult decision to find him a home better suited to his needs. Living with three young children had become a bit overwhelming for him, and it was clear that he would thrive in a quieter environment where he could relax and enjoy life.

One of the many advantages of being a pre-approved adopter is being ready when the right dog comes along! When Michelle and Brian learned about Cada, they knew they wanted to meet him. Already sharing their home with their other boxer dog, they were excited about the possibility of adding another Boxer to the family!

As it turns out, it was a perfect match!

Today, Cada is settling into his new home with Michelle, Brian, and Stella Moon, where he has the calm environment he was looking for and a loving family to call his own! 🐾❤️

Look what love can do! From how we received this boy in late April to now, just look at his transformation. Bazooka is such a good example of why our rescue exists, and the good that can happen.

Bazooka came to us as nothing more than skin and bones – only 37 pounds! That’s insane! We promptly got him to one of our awesome foster homes, where he was put on a slow refeeding protocol, and given all the love he deserves. He had many growths that needed to be removed, and was in bad need of a dental. Bazooka had to have some teeth removed along with the growths, and we are now optimistic for his future.
He is reported to be the perfect dog, and loves to run and play with his foster sisters.

Some key facts about this awesome boy –
➢ Adores people and would love to be with you as often as possible.
➢ Estimated to be 9 years old, and that isn’t slowing him down
➢ Respectful of cats, but might chase them outside if they run
➢ Is not destructive at all, and a crate isn’t needed (though he is tolerant)
➢ Fully potty trained
➢ No problems with leash walking, grooming or car rides (loves to go on adventures!)
➢ Loves to play with toys, especially balls

Bazooka is just a great example of how resilient dogs can be. Despite all the bad cards life dealt him, he’s now a happy go lucky boy who is putting that past behind him. All he needs now is that perfect forever home.

⭐ Merlin and Sweetie are onto the GREAT life! Congratulations Ben, Brande, and Gavin!

🐾Some dogs come into rescue with a story that reminds us how important community can be!

Back in February, a woman was visiting Florida when she became aware of two Boxers, Merlin and Sweetie, who suddenly needed a safe place to go. Wanting to help, she brought them back to Michigan with the intention of making them part of her family.

Unfortunately, despite her best efforts, her resident dogs were not accepting the newcomers. Determined to do right by Merlin and Sweetie, she reached out to Great Lakes Boxer Rescue and made the drive to bring them to one of our foster homes on February 17.

From the moment they arrived, it was clear that Merlin and Sweetie shared a special bond. Through all the changes and uncertainty, they had each other. We were determined to find a family willing to give them a home together—and we are thrilled to say that wish came true!

Our alumni adopters, Ben and Brande, opened their hearts and home to both Merlin and Sweetie, ensuring they could stay together for the rest of their lives!

This adoption was truly a team effort- One of our wonderful followers generously donated their adoption fee, helping make this happy ending possible.

To everyone who played a part in their journey—thank you! And to Ben, Brande, and Gavin thank you for giving Merlin and Sweetie the forever home they deserve.

Current location- NE of Detroit (Mount Clemens)

Meet Freya, a wonderfully affectionate senior. Freya is 9 years old, and looking for a safe place to land and a soft couch to share. She loves people and to be your shadow.

Freya has not had an easy life for a while now, maybe never. She was brought to us as the result of a bad fight with another female dog, who was reported to be her daughter. Both girls were supposedly in heat, and hormones were raging. This is another prime example of why spay/neuter is so important! Freya had many wounds that needed to heal, curled toenails desperately in need of attention, and was substantially underweight and starved for attention.

Freya has been in a loving foster home to heal and decompress. She's proven to be a gentle, affectionate girl who listens well. She's adopted a stuffed hedgehog as her best friend and is doing fine with kitties. We have not exposed her to other dogs because of her past, but it was reported she was ok with dogs other than her daughter. She might be fine with another calm, confident dog in the home, though a meet and greet is required.

Freya absolutely loves her crate, though she doesn't need it. She feels it's her safe place.She hasn't had a lot of those, and we aim to fix that and give her the 'happily ever after' that she deserves!
