We are a group of volunteers dedicated to saving the lives of boxers! We rescue, heal & rehabilitate. When boxers are in need, GLBR volunteers will respond.

We at Great Lakes Boxer Rescue take in abandoned, sick, and unwanted boxers in the Great Lakes Region (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois). We are an all-volunteer group of dedicated individuals who have the hearts and passion to help this amazing breed. We have, and will continue on a daily basis, to make as much of a difference to as many boxers that we can, to care for, rehabilitate, and to help them overcome any known mental or medical issues that are apparent. We will then closely screen, including doing home visits, for any potential adopter, to ensure that each dog, is re-homed into the best home possible for that particular dog. Our mission includes hands-on rescue, as well as educating as many people as we can about the breed and the need to spay and neuter your animals, and to stop the overpopulation of animals. It is our hope that our efforts will enhance the lives of people as well as the dogs. It is our hope and determination that we can make a difference in this world to help one dog at a time, as many times as we can.

💙🐾 ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT: JURGEN HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER FAMILY! 🐾💙

Some happy endings remind us why rescue is so special. ❤️ Our sweet boy Jurgen has officially found his forever home with Deidre, Madrienne, and Sawyer! 🏡🐶

Jurgen is a deaf Boxer who deserved a family willing to see beyond his disability and love him for the wonderful dog he is. Sometimes, the right family comes along and shows us that communication doesn’t always need words — just patience, understanding, and a whole lot of love. 💙

Now, Jurgen gets to start a brand-new chapter surrounded by his very own family, with people to love him, care for him, and make wonderful memories together. We couldn’t be happier for this boy! 🐾

To Deidre, Madrienne, and Sawyer — thank you for opening your hearts and home to a rescue Boxer and giving Jurgen the second chance he deserves. ❤️

🐾 You may have seen lots of “Foster-to-Adopt Needed” posts lately… but what exactly does Foster-to-Adopt (FTA) mean? ❤️

We’re so glad you asked! Because Foster-to-Adopt can be a wonderful way to help a dog find their forever home while making a HUGE difference for rescue dogs still waiting for help. 🏡🐶

Here’s how it works! 👇

💙 You intend to adopt the dog, and you become their foster, too! Instead of the dog staying in rescue care while waiting for an adopter, they go directly into the home of someone who plans to make them a permanent family member.

🐾 Great news for your wallet: Great Lakes Boxer Rescue covers normal, approved foster expenses while the dog is in our care under the foster-to-adopt arrangement.

🏡 Less stress for the dog: They get to settle into the home where they’re intended to stay, avoiding an additional stop or transition whenever possible.

❤️ AND HERE’S WHY FOSTER-TO-ADOPT IS SO IMPORTANT TO US!

Like many rescues, we have far more dogs who need saving than we have available foster homes. 💔 Our foster homes are the key to everything we do. Without an available foster home, we often can’t bring another dog into rescue, no matter how badly they need us.

Foster-to-Adopt helps us save MORE dogs! When a dog goes directly into the home of their intended adopter, it can free up space and resources in our foster network so we can help another Boxer waiting for their chance. One home can make a difference for more than one dog! 🐾

🎉🐾 BIG NEWS! LUNA & OLLIE HAVE BEEN ADOPTED! 🐾🎉

Some happy endings take a little longer, but this one was worth the wait! ❤️

Luna and Ollie came into Great Lakes Boxer Rescue on July 5th after their family faced financial difficulties and a separation. At 4 and 5 years old, these two share the same dad, and their bond was clear from the start. Their former family hoped they could stay together, and we were determined to make that happen!

Finding a home for one dog can be a challenge. Finding an adopter willing to welcome two dogs at once is even harder. But we never gave up on finding the right family for this bonded pair!

After spending time with our friends at The Dog Wizard Westlake, Luna and Ollie have finally found what we’ve been hoping for: a forever home where they can stay together! 🥹🏡

A huge thank-you to Lori and Karen for opening your hearts and home to BOTH of these deserving pups. You didn’t just adopt two dogs—you kept a family together. And that’s something truly special. 💕

Luna and Ollie, your waiting days are over! Here’s to a lifetime of shared naps, adventures, belly rubs, and never having to wonder where your best friend went. 🐶🐶❤️

🚨 FOSTER-TO-ADOPT HOME NEEDED FOR XANDER! 🚨

Meet Xander! 🐾 This 3-year-old boy is super human-friendly and ready to find a home where he can shine!

Xander is fully vetted and looking for a fresh start. He isn’t getting along with the resident female dog in his current home, so we’re looking for a home that’s a better fit for him.

🎉 ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT: ROCKY, FKA PUMPKIN! 🎉

From a scary week on the streets to a forever home filled with love, Rocky’s story has the happy ending he deserved. ❤️🐾

When Rocky was found, he had reportedly been abandoned and had spent a week on the run, staying close to the area where he was believed to have been left. Scared, filthy, and enduring terrible weather, this sweet boy needed help. He was safely captured by an assistant dog warden and received the care and nourishment he desperately needed.

With the shelter overcrowded and his future uncertain, Rocky needed someone willing to step up. And step up they did! 🥹

Enter Mike, Michelle, and their son Gavin! Not only were they already preapproved to adopt, but they were willing to open their home to Rocky through our foster-to-adopt program and make the long drive to pick him up. They gave Rocky a chance when he needed it most, and that chance turned into forever!

Now Rocky can leave those uncertain days behind and start his next chapter surrounded by his very own family. No more wondering what happened to his people. No more trying to survive on the streets. Just safety, love, and a family who chose him. 🏡❤️

A huge thank-you to Mike, Michelle, and Gavin for opening your hearts and home to Rocky, and for going the extra mile—literally—to bring him home!

😍 THANK YOU NOVI PET EXPO😍

This was our BEST YEAR YET for the Novi Pet Expo!!

Not only did we have record sales, but we also had record visitors! SO MANY alumni showed up to support the booth and to say, "Hi!"

We loved every bit of it! So to everyone that came by, whether you were an alumnus, a volunteer, a fan, or someone new just checking us out, THANK YOU!!!
